Fatehpur Sikri at Agra

Fatehpur Sikri

#Cultural Heritage
Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, Fatehpur Sikri is an amazing place. It looks almost whimsical in its airy style. And the carvings in the stone were exceptionally beautiful. The bus ride from the parking lot to the citadel is dicey, but it's the only way up. Once there, the magnitude and beauty will amaze you.

Musamman Burj at Agra

Musamman Burj

Inside Agra Fort, Musamman Burj or Shah burj is a beautiful octagonal tower placed close to Shah Jahan's private hall Diwan-e-Khas. The tower looks out over the River Yamuna and is traditionally considered to have one of the most poignant views of the Taj Mahal. The Musamman Burj is made of delicate marble lattices with ornamental niches so that the ladies of the court could gaze out unseen. The decoration of the walls is pietra dura. The chamber has a marble dome on top and is surrounded by a verandah with a beautiful carved fountain in the center.

Mehtab Bagh at Agra

Mehtab Bagh

The most amazing thing about this garden is the mixture of wildlife along the river (massive flocks of birds) coupled with the epics of the Taj Mahal. This place offers a great sunset view. Visit the place on an overnight journey to Agra.

Itimad-ud-Daulah at Agra

Itmad-ud-daulah has a special place in the chronicles of both history as well as architecture. This is precisely because Itmad ud Daula is the very first tomb in India that is entirely made out of Marble. This is actually a mausoleum that overlooks the River Yamuna and is a tomb of Mir Ghiyas Beg, a minister in the court of Shah Jahan. This monument is much older than Taj, has amazing detail, and isn't a very busy place. You can spend time, just taking in all the detail and the grounds. Make sure to take your shoes off before entering the tomb.
