"Goa is all about St. Francis Xavier. His mortal remains are placed in a casket, few feet above ground in this very Church. One hand is missing, which was taken back to Portugal. The body could not be taken there as the ship was continuously wrecking after many attempts. So they brought back the body, kept the body here, and took back only the hand. The finger nails are still growing, curling! That's again a wonder/miracle. After several centuries the body is still fresh! The remains are lowered December time for public viewing, and special blessings/healing once in twelve years. Miracles happen after praying here, so the crowd is very high. After Saint Thomas, Saint Francis Xavier could be the most popular Christian missionary in India. I like the golden-coloured Altar area. Careful photography gives excellent results. It's a calm, serene place, where people pray earnestly. So let's respect others and be careful not to disturb others while photographing. Use no flash. Many relics of the Saint are found in this Church and the nearby Se Cathedral Church, the largest one in India. Together they form the largest Church complex size area in India. "

"Going to Goa and missing to visit this place is absolutely a mistake. Goa is about the Portuguese culture, architecture and the religion they brought to India which is more or less the dominant one here. The body of the saint is preserved pretty well and is brought down every 10 years or so for exposition to the public. Yet again the church design and intricate works are worth your time if you go there. "
