Ardhanareeshwara Temple, Guptkashi-Incarnation of Purusha – Prakriti Union
Ardhanareeshwara temple located in the town of Guptkashi has a significant religious importance amongst the other temples. As the name suggests, the temple has an idol of a form that is a synthesis of half man and half women. The idol depicts the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and alongside painted is a sacred Hindu symbol, Swastika.
This temple being of extreme religious importance is usually full of devotees. It is located in the same complex as that of Vishwanath temple and Manikarnik Kund. The temple depicts the fact that the female principle of God, is inseparable from the male one which is responsible for the creation of the cosmos.
