Assam State Zoo and the Botanical Gardens housed within the zoo. The exquisitely landscaped Gardens was established in 1982. A home to diverse species of herbs, palms, shrubs and conifers, it spreads over an area of 85 hectares.

One of the main attraction of the Assam State Zoo is the Orchid house which boasts of a collection of more than 40 varieties of rare orchids gathered from the entire North East region of the country. The gardens are open on all days except Friday.

Visited with my daughter yesterday (13.04.2016) hoping that she could see some of her favorite animals like Elephants Giraffes Zebra but was upset as there were no such animals present. My appeal to the zoo authority that please take good care of the animals specially the Lion who is in a very poor condition.”

A 10 minute ferry ride from the river banks of the busy city takes you to this island of wonder. When you reach there, time becomes an alien concept. The motor boats are available everyday from 7am to 5pm.

                            Kamakhya Temple is located on Nilachal Hills in western part of Guwahati on adjoining banks of Brahmaputra river. Apart from this, there are also the temples of 10 Mahavidyas in and around temple. These include Bhuvaneshvari, Bagalamukhi, Chinnamasta,Tripura Sundari, Tara, Kali, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Matangi and Kamala Temples. It is one among the 52 Shakti Peeths of India. There is no image of Shakti here. Within a corner of the cave in the temple, there is sculptured image of the yoni of the goddess, which is the object of reverence. A natural spring keeps the stone moist. It is an important pilgrimage destination for all sects of Hindus and especially for Tantric worshipers.

                            The Temple is located at an island in the Brahmaputra river. To reach, one needs to catch a ferry. The view from the ferry and on the temple is awesome. Its divine place situated in a island between brahmaputra river. In the temple you can see maa parvati and Shiva pic on shivalinga. That’s why it’s called uma nanda. When you enter the temple, the sight is breathtaking — the inside us tastefully decorated and the main sanctum Sanatorium is dazzling with beautiful Radha Krishna idols. Though the air is rent with prayer sounds, it is still peaceful. The dresses of the idols are worth seeing. The temple is worth a visit on festivals and especially during Krishna Janmashtami. Besides, an aarti is held every evening at around 5-6.
