This is Jain temple complex, has an ancient description back of the Ramyana times. There is evidence that Vijaynagar was founded here during Vikram year 1336, but even before this Hemkut and Chakrakut, two very familiar shrines were present according to references available. Even today ruins of thousands of temples, forts etc, are found scattered in the hills and nearby area that reminds one about the antiquity of the place.

Being at the center point of Hampi and also at a very good height, this place gives panoramic of the Hampi. It can be reached via Hampi bazaar, street and best time to visit is during sunrise or sunset. This ascent to this place can take around 20 to 30 minutes. This place has an important place in Hindu mythology Ramayana. This place is named after sage Mathanga. From here you can just get a view of Achyuta Raya’s Temple complex, Thungabhdra river, Hampi with a tower of Virupaksha Temple.

Hazara Rama Temple at Hampi

Hazara Rama Temple

Not an active temple, only the engraved walls with beautiful sculptures telling the entire story of Ramayana are there. Here are figurines on each wall depicting a particular scene from Ramayan. It is a good place for photography. Best to visit in the morning or evening.
