Dong Xuan Market

Dong Xuan Market in Hanoi

Dong Xuan Market is housed within a four-storey Soviet-style building on the northern edge of Hanoi Old Quarter. It is the largest in Hanoi market covered and without a doubt, one of the most popular and crowded city markets. The popularity of Dong Xuan market is not so much by the variety of products nor by its price, but also because it is located in the Centre of Hanoi, just 5 minutes walk from the central lake in Hanoi, Hoan Kiem Lake.
In the interior of the Dong Xuan market you can buy practically everything, for example in the back of the market normally sold animals (birds mainly). The exterior of the building, at nightfall, some street food stalls and also small stalls where they sell memories and souvenirs are mounted.

"Keep moving or you'll get pushed out of the way. The stuff tends to repeat itself over and over. Surprisingly I've found the same cheap Chinese products on Amazon haggle price free for less (I know haggling is half the fun). Lots of touristy souvenir stuff that you see all over the Old Quarter. The only reason I go there is for the dehydrated fruits. Good deal on that. Don't get me wrong, it's worth a visit."

"Typical market places not different than the indoor markets in Europe. Fresh and dried food and sold, alongside clothes, accessories and a selection of local cuisines ranging from pho to buncha to soups."

"Insanely busy market. Contains loads of tat (poor quality not useful stuff for the non Brits) but it's an experience. It is however one of the most polluted parts of the city so take a breathing mask."

"You can find anything and everything in this market... Except for large cloth... I am only 200 lbs, and unable to find a T shirt that fits me."

"Good for buying delectable dried Logan fruit which is sold just inside front archways. No need to venture further inside! For a real fresh-produce market, walk to Cho Chua Long."
