Located at an elevation of 3900 meters above the sea level, Tayul Monastery (or Gompa) is one of the oldest gompas of the region. Tayul Gompa has a beautiful and mystic landscape of the Bhaga Valley and exhibits the magnificent Buddhist architecture.

As per the anecdotes, Dogpa Lama Serzang Rinchen of Khar region pointed the place as blessed and named it as Tayul that is the chosen one. The gompa is decorated with murals and houses Thankas which depict the life of Buddha. There is a 12 feet statue of Guru Padmasambhava besides the famous manifestations of Singhpunkha and Vajravahi. The exotic feature is the famous 100 million Mani wheels which sometimes turn itself and are considered pious. There is also a collection of 101 Buddhist sculptures of the Kangyur which are a must watch.
