The Red Fort is one of the most prominent monuments of the world. Located in the heart of Delhi, this structure was the residence of the Mughals and also the political centre of the Mughal Empire. The Red Fort was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. This destination is tourist hotspot today.
This gargantuan building was constructed by Shah Jahan in 1639. The thick defensive walls contain several turrets and platforms, which were planned for an impregnable defence. Beautiful floral patterns and massive domes adorn this piece of architecture. The famed Diwan-i-Aam and Diwan-i-Khas are located inside this complex. The famous speech 'Tryst with Destiny' was delivered by Jawaharlal Nehru in the Red Fort on the eve of India's independence from British rule. Even today the Prime Minister of India hoists the tricolour national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day and delivers his speech.
