Located on the banks of the Kalpathy river in Palakkad is the Kalpathy Temple or the Viswanatha Swamy Temple. It is known as the Kundukovil by the natives, dedicated for the worship of Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati. The idol of Lord Subrahmany is surrounded by his consorts Valli and Devyani.

An interesting feature of the Dakshina Kashi Temple is that the idols of the presiding deities are attached to the pedestals by a mixture of 8 elements – ashtabandham. The annual Kalpathy Ratholsavam or Chariot Festival is celebrated here in the month of November. It draws ardent devotees who throng the temple premises to see the beautifully coloured chariots drawn through the streets. The temple is renowned for the 7 day rath yatra, a spiritual trip for all pilgrims seeking some quiet and peace.
