Elephant Falls

#Waterfall in Shillong

The mighty Elephant falls is one of the most visited falls of North East India. This waterfall was named by the British due to the presence of a rock near it resembling an elephant. This rock, was however destroyed in 1897. One can get really close to the falls to see the white-as-milk water rush down in full force.
12 kms away from the busy city, this waterfall is a prime spot for a quick getaway. Both locals and tourists flock to this destination. The lush green forest cover surrounding the Elephant Falls springs to life in the monsoon season, providing a picture-perfect view. The 3 tiers of this waterfall are clearly distinguishable because of the stark contrast between the water and the black rock behind. This waterfall is a must-visit destination for anyone who visits Shillong. Get ready to be enchanted by the breathtaking beauty of Elephant Falls.

"A very good place to visit. The most lovely thing to enjoy is to feel the falls very near to you. The fall is named after a rock which looked like Elephant but now it is destroyed in an earthquake. "

"There are two entrances to this fall. I'd like the entrance from the amusement park side, which is less crowded. You can actually go in the water and play and take pictures. It is also place for couples to have dates."

"Very nice place for Photography. Mr Modi has visited the place in May. You need energy to go to the place coz is more down."

"“Nothing wrong with the place, it's just another waterfall” If you are pressed on time or if you have a choice between visiting this place and another, then I will suggest you give this a skip. There is some obscure history about why it's called the 'Elephant Falls' but nothing that pleases any of your senses. In fact, there is a steep descent of stairs to reach all the way the end & there's no incentive at all. I thought it was a waste of my time & energy visiting the place. Visited November 2015"

"This gorgeous waterfall is small but wide, hence the name elephant Falls. It is easily accessible from the city and looks very pretty on a sunny day."
