Phimeanakas in Temples of Angkor

The temple of Phimeanakas is situated near the center of the area enclosed by the walls of the Royal Palace. It is believed that here a serpent-spirit with nine heads lived. The spirit appeared to the Khmer king disguised as a woman and the king had to sleep with her every night in the tower before he joined his wives and concubines in another part of the palace. If the king missed even one night it was believed he would die. In this way the royal lineage of the Khmer was perpetuated.

"On top of the pyramid in that location was a pillar, while on the edge of top platform there are galleries. Phimeanakas is located inside the walled enclosure of the Royal Palace of Angkor Thom north of Baphuon"

"Gives off a very mystical vibe. Great place to chill under the trees. Worth going. Might be crowded on top"

"Phimeanakas is quite close to The Baphuon and is also a part of Angkor Thom. It’s not as large as The Baphuon but has a similar design. And once again there’s a steep staircase to climb if you want to go to the top. This is a temple that can be enjoyed from the ground, though. It was built at the end of the 10th century and would once have had a tall tower at the top."
