According to religious beliefs, this city is from pre-mahabharata era and lot of mythological legends are associated with it and at that time, Ujjain was called ‘Ujjayini’, the capital of Avanti Kingdom.

It hosts one of the most religious fairs- The Kumbh Mela- which is only held in four cities of India and is known as “The city of Temples”. There are thousands of temples in Ujjain but there are specifically 84 historic Lord Shiva Temples, which are visited by many Hindu pilgrims.
