Yercaud is a hill station situated on the Shevaroys Hills of the Eastern Ghats, located in Salem District of Northern Tamil Nadu. The abundance of trees that happened to be near the lake made the locals to name this area as Yeri – Kaadu meaning Lake Forest. Later on, the name turned out to be Yercaud. It is popularly known as 'Jewel of the South'. Yercaud region, includes the predominantly short and rocky hills that welcomes all travellers with its cool climate & pleasant surroundings.

Yercaud Lake

Yercaud Lake is the first attraction for a Traveller. It is a picturesque water body surrounded by gardens and well wooded area. Boating in the cold water of the lake is enchanting as well as refreshing. The lake is also known as emerald lake and it is the only natural lake amongst all hill stations in the southern part of India.

Kiliyur Falls at Yercaud

Kiliyur Falls

It is a beautiful waterfalls in the Servarayan hill range in the eastern ghats. It is a 300 feet high waterfalls and is about 3kms from the Yercaud lake. The final 500 meters consists only of a rough unpaved steep pathway. But it is a breathtaking sight in the monsoon time when the water levels are at the maximum. The best time to visit this place is immediately after the monsoon season.

Pagoda Point at Yercaud

Pagoda Point is located on Eastern part of Yercaud, on the 5th Km from the Yercaud Lake. The local tribes had built an arrangement of rocks in four Piles that looked like a pyramid. This made the place to be also called as Pyramid Point. There is a temple located at this place between the piles, which is dedicated to Lord Rama. Tourists can enjoy beautiful views of the town of Salem along with a village known as Karakambadi.

The Servarayan Temple at Yercaud

The Servarayan Temple

It is situated on the flat top of the Servarayan Hill. It is a narrow cave temple dedicated to Lord Servarayan and Goddess Kaveri. As it is believed that the temple cave bottom touches river Kavery. Goddess Kaveri is worshipped as the presiding deity by all the villagers in and around this region. The Tribals gather here in thousands to celebrate their Annual Festival in the month of May every Year.

Bear's Cave at Yercaud

Bear's Cave

Bear's Cave is located on the way to the famous Servarayan Temple. Though this cave is now a private property but tourists are allowed to enter. A temple close to the cave is of high religious value and is flocked by tourists all year-round. It is believed that during the time of war, this cave was used as a hideout by Tipu Sultan. If tourists wish, they can try to squeeze past the boulders into the cave and explore it. There is a also huge cave formation beside a coffee estate bungalow, which was considered to be home for the bears.
