Tawang Monastery is the largest monastery in India and second largest in the world. The monastery is three stories high and within the complex there are 65 residential buildings. The library of the monastery has valuable old scriptures, mainly Kangyur and Tengyur.

This is the birth place of the 6th H.H Dalai Lama. There is a very helpful staff and literature inside and outside the monastery. The place is serene and peaceful. Do not miss the quick trek around the place which offers the view to the beautiful natural landscape Tawang offers. With the modern day architecture, the place has a double storied main temple, an assembly hall with eight pillars, an altar room with four pillars, a deity with two pillars, a residential quarter for His Holy Highness the sixth Dalai Lama, a chapel to practice the Tantrik methods.
