Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple in Alleppey

The heavenly abode of Lord Krishna is the Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple. You can see tourists flocking around the temple to get darshan of Sri Krishna. It is rightly named as Ambalappuzha, meaning temple on river with the temple adorning the Kerala backwaters. This sanctum evokes spirituality and helps soul seekers in finding their inner peace.

It is believed that the Krishna idol of Guruvayur Temple was shifted here during Tipu Sultan’s raid. Known as the Dwaraka of the South, it has a tranquil surrounding with divine ambience and unique architecture with local folklore adorning the walls. Visit in March/April to witness the popular 10 day Arattu Utsavam. The temple is famous for its pal payasam prasad – a sweet pudding made from rice and milk – offered as a token of blessing to all devotees visiting the temple.

Known as the Kumbamela of the South, the Kumbabharani Festival is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety. Dance rituals are performed to honour the Goddess on this auspicious day.
