We wore this pfd during this last Everglades Challenge 2021. We got another first place overall this last year with a second best time ever. We wore the Edge Life Jacket and found them to be the most comfortable, and therefore the best, long distance pfd we’ve ever worn.
A Critical Review: Not a life jacket for women. Earlier feedback mentioned the same thing but also said that she was big chested. I am small chested and I grew up wearing male or unisex life jackets so I thought I would be fine. It is not. The way this one is made, it just hits in the wrong places. Men, go ahead and get it. Women, look elsewhere no matter what size you are.

A Critical Review: Astral makes some excellent, very comfortable white water PFDs such as the GreenJacket Type V Rescue PFD or BlueJacket Type III PFD. They have large chest zippered pockets with room to store phones, key fobs, snacks, whistle, nose plugs. The YTV is not one of their best efforts. I just received this YTV life jacket, slipped it over my head and was immediately shocked and hugely disappointed. The 2 zippered pockets are in the flaps under your arms, not in the chest. You cannot slip your hand into the pocket without reaching across to the opposite side. They are triangular in shape and not large enough for even a bare phone or a key fob in a small dry bag/pouch. I honestly do not carry anything small enough to fit in the pockets except maybe a Garmin GPS. Since the chest is not used for a large zippered storage pouch, why not add a front entry zipper rather than pulling the PFD over your head. I have 3 other PFDs that are pullover entry, but for a good reason. My initial reaction was to return it, however, I will probably use it for swimming pool sessions where we practice rolling and white water skills and avoid putting my GreenJacket in the chlorine. In the pool I can keep my phone and keys on the deck. On the river or lake, I always store those items on my body in case I am separated from the boat in a squall or swim in white water. I gave it 2 stars only because it seems well-made and Astral makes some great gear. This design simply makes no sense in a world where everyone carries a phone and car keys/fob.

A Critical Review: Received the vests today and was a bit surprised about the quality. We initially purchased the red and decided to exchange it for the orange to match our bags. The red was very good quality and all looks in order. These have spots and random “dirt or stains” on them. The fabric was also a bit shabby compared to the red. Some stitches are way off line. We don’t want to return them just yet since we needed them for an upcoming kayak trip. This definitely is a quality control issue. We hope they hold up for a day trip or they’re going back to seller.

A 5-Star Review: When I ordered this it did not say what size it was, only what weight it would support. It turns out to be a MED, so I suspect its medium. I could have used one that was longer. But, if I wear it loosely it looks like it will stay out of my way for casting and still be able to keep my head above water should I fall in on that 20 pound monster fish fight ! I’ll give it a go.

A Critical Review: This is listed as a “… Fly Fishing Vest , Fishing Safety Life Jacket…” I checked everywhere. There is NOTHING in this vest to suggest it would keep you afloat should you overboard. And that was my primary reason for buying it. This does NOT do what it suggests it’ll do. I suppose I should have figured that out on my own when the price was reasonable.
As a fishing vest it gained ONE STAR. Because it is what it says it is. It’s nearly like my other fly fishing vest I bought on Amazon.
Also, on the plus side, it was here earlier than I expected. I guess those guys and gals in China were working overtime when my order came in.
