The remains of the Gaddige raja’s tomb are protected under the Archaeological Sites Act by the government of Karnataka. The place is still an attractive tourist spot due to the history it is associated with. On the edge of a hilltop in the town stands this tomb reflecting the marvels of into-scenic style (Muhammadan edifices) it is built with. It speaks about the fading history of Kodava royalty with its design. 2 main tombs surround the central structure, the right one being a dedication to Linga Rajendra built by his son and the left one called the Rudrappa (the royal priests), built to honor his loyalty.
The central structure is a tribute to Dodda Veera Rajendra and his Queen the central figures in the history of Kodavu rulers. Two small structures can also be seen with inscriptions on them, these were to honor the buried Royal officials. Gaddige Raja’s tomb is easy to reach from Madikeri bus stand. The visiting hours exceed from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm with a minimal entry fee of Rs. 2 per person. The tourism department of Karnataka has also added gardens around the tomb to add on the value of the place.
