Madikeri fort is an amazing architectural masterpiece in the center of Madikeri in Coorg. The structures inside the fort represent a landscaped view of its surroundings. Built back in the 17th century by the then king Muddu Raja, this fort since then has undergone several transformations. Preserving the historic remnants of a bygone era this fort today is an office of the Deputy Commissioner of the region. Madikeri fort can be visited between 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on all weekdays except Monday. Photography is free on the premises of the fort.
The architecture of Madikeri fort showcases astonishing features. The presence of a temple, an Anglican Church, a prison, and a museum makes the tall standing structure marvelously beautiful. The Gothic style church with precisely stained glass windows and a grand clock tower are signs of British dominance over a period of time. There are life-size stone statues of elephants at the entrance, and a sculpture of a tortoise with initials of king Vijayrajendra carved on it that interests tourists.
