Built by Dodda Vira Rajendra, the then king of Kodagu empire in 18 century is a historical marvel unraveling the marvels of artisans of that time. It is a hunting lodge of the royal family built at the foothills of Tadiyandamol peak. The palace is located in Kakkabe and has various camping sites nearby. The palace is 40 km from Madikeri and can be easily visited in between the trek. It does not take much time to explore Nalakunad Palace as some of its parts are damaged due to neglect for so many years. Nalakunad palace is a monument of historical importance and attracts people for its explicit aura of simplicity.
The visiting hours of Nalakunad Palace exceed from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The courtyard is embellished with intricate wood carvings, ancient paintings, and faded murals that display the fine talent of artisans. Though the palace is in bad condition it does not stop reflecting the aura of royalty through these pieces of evidence. The conical roofs, crested dome, pillared facade, and courtyard with statues of four bulls all are enchanted with the bliss of royalty. The whole palace is made of wood and iron making it strong enough to withstand nature for so long.

Special in Nalakunad Palace: There are secret rooms in this two-storeyed buildings, that are worth exploring. These rooms were used to hide in case of attack.

The license mentions details like the particular stretch of river allocated for the activity, a maximum number of fishes that can be caught per day etc. One can get the license easily from the Coorg wildlife society in a few hundred rupees. Also, there is a rule to release the hooked fishes back into the river to maintain the ecosystem.

The place is also popular for the majestic meet of three perennial rivers at Triveni Sangam namely; Cauvery, Kannike, and Sujyoti. The view of the water from the three rivers mixing to form a heavenly landscape is worth blessing your eyes and soul with. Bhagamandala is also famous as a honey marketing center and even houses a bee rearing center; Madhuvana.

The Burude falls are also called the Illimane falls, this name is derived from the small cluster of houses that every trekker passes through on the way to the falls. Adjacent to the most famous waterfall in Coorg is the dominance of semi-evergreen and evergreen forests. The trail gets challenging at certain points but it’s worth the view waiting at the end of the trek. Safe timings to visit the waterfalls are from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The trek is easy and is loved by new trekkers for the easy trail and experienced ones for the panoramic view. Small streams steeping down the stony way mark the trail to Mallali falls, the initial stage of Kumardhara river. It takes 3-4 hours in all for the trekking and sightseeing, and the visiting hours extend from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The best time to trek destined at Mallali falls is from June to December.

Nalakunad palace is a monument of historical importance and attracts people for its explicit aura of simplicity. The visiting hours of Nalakunad Palace exceed from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The courtyard is embellished with intricate wood carvings, ancient paintings, and faded murals that display the fine talent of artisans. Though the palace is in bad condition it does not stop reflecting the aura of royalty through these pieces of evidence. The conical roofs, crested dome, pillared facade, and courtyard with statues of four bulls all are enchanted with the bliss of royalty. The whole palace is made of wood and iron making it strong enough to withstand nature for so long.

                            The remains of the Gaddige raja’s tomb are protected under the Archaeological Sites Act by the government of Karnataka. The place is still an attractive tourist spot due to the history it is associated with. On the edge of a hilltop in the town stands this tomb reflecting the marvels of into-scenic style (Muhammadan edifices) it is built with. It speaks about the fading history of Kodava royalty with its design. 2 main tombs surround the central structure, the right one being a dedication to Linga Rajendra built by his son and the left one called the Rudrappa (the royal priests), built to honor his loyalty. The central structure is a tribute to Dodda Veera Rajendra and his Queen the central figures in the history of Kodavu rulers. Two small structures can also be seen with inscriptions on them, these were to honor the buried Royal officials. Gaddige Raja’s tomb is easy to reach from Madikeri bus stand. The visiting hours exceed from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm with a minimal entry fee of Rs. 2 per person. The tourism department of Karnataka has also added gardens around the tomb to add on the value of the place.

The Brahmagiri wildlife sanctuary is a part of the famous Brahmagiri trek and can be accessed from Bengaluru by a cab. There are various valleys and hillocks on the trek trail and the Barapole river divides the sanctuary into two reserve forest areas, namely; Brahmagiri and Urty. The Brahmagiri wildlife sanctuary has varied species of animals including Macaques, Gaurs, Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, Cats, Wild Pigs, Nilgiri Langurs, and Sloth Bears. There are also around 240 avian species of the vivid fauna including Bulbul, Malabar Trogon, Emerald Dove etc. Reptilian species include Cobras, King Cobras, and Pythons. The flora is equally diversified with common and rare plant species like Eucalyptus, Bauhinias, Purpurea, Samanea Saman and many other species.

Preserving the historic remnants of a bygone era this fort today is an office of the Deputy Commissioner of the region. Madikeri fort can be visited between 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on all weekdays except Monday. Photography is free on the premises of the fort. The architecture of Madikeri fort showcases astonishing features. The presence of a temple, an Anglican Church, a prison, and a museum makes the tall standing structure marvelously beautiful. The Gothic style church with precisely stained glass windows and a grand clock tower are signs of British dominance over a period of time. There are life-size stone statues of elephants at the entrance, and a sculpture of a tortoise with initials of king Vijayrajendra carved on it that interests tourists.                             Rameshwara temple is located on the banks of Laxman tirtha river in Coorg district of Karnataka. This temple is small but beautifully carved. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and experiences a huge crowd of devotees during Shivratri. The temple has a strong historical background dating back to the times of Ramayana. It is believed to possess the power to cleanse the sins of those visiting with faith. Rameshwara temple is an example of strong religious beliefs cored in the beauty of hills. It is believed that Lord Rama while in search for Sita, was passing through the Brahmagiri hills when he asked Lakshman to get him some water, Laxman shot an arrow into the mountain from where started a stream which flows down as the Laxman tirtha. The stream flows at the back of the temple and devotees take a holy dip in the water. The shiva lingam first established in this area is believed to be kept by Lord Ram himself, he also wished to build a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in this region. Rameshwaram temple has another shrine dedicated to Lord Rama, a prominent figure in the history of the temple. The temple falls on the way to Iruppu falls or Nagarhole.

                            Omkareshwara temple located in the Madikeri district of Coorg is an ancient shrine of Lord Shiva. Till date, it is one of the famous religious destinations in Karnataka. The unique architecture that amazes every visitor is the blend of Islamic and Gothic cultures the temple is designed with. A temple with this unique architecture is not only of importance to the devotees but also for the tourists, historians, and philosophers. The Shiva lingam is placed at the entrance of the temple. From outside it appears like a large and simple structure emitting its intangible radiance of hope and devotion. The entry in the temple is free and the temple timings are from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It is believed that king Linga Rajendra II had killed a Brahmin to satisfy his hunger of political dominance, from then on he could not be at peace until he built the Omkareshwara temple as a sign of expiation to escape the unbearable nightmares. The history of this temple has been carved on a copper plate and placed on the entrance door frame. A tank in the temple premises also acts as a matter of interest for tourists.

Raja’s seat is one of the preferred tourist’s spots in Coorg and is approachable between 5:30 am and 8:00 pm on all weekdays. There is a minimal entry fee of Rs. 5 and Rs. 10 for the toy train ride. This seasonal garden in Madikeri overwhelms and delight the visitor’s heart with peace and rejuvenate a stressful life. The sunset point overlooks a valley making the scene perfect for a beautiful picture to capture the moments.
