Omkareshwara temple located in the Madikeri district of Coorg is an ancient shrine of Lord Shiva. Till date, it is one of the famous religious destinations in Karnataka. The unique architecture that amazes every visitor is the blend of Islamic and Gothic cultures the temple is designed with. The entry in the temple is free and the temple timings are from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It is believed that king Linga Rajendra II had killed a Brahmin to satisfy his hunger of political dominance, from then on he could not be at peace until he built the Omkareshwara temple as a sign of expiation to escape the unbearable nightmares. The history of this temple has been carved on a copper plate and placed on the entrance door frame. A tank in the temple premises also acts as a matter of interest for tourists.
