Rameshwara temple is located on the banks of Laxman tirtha river in Coorg district of Karnataka. This temple is small but beautifully carved. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and experiences a huge crowd of devotees during Shivratri. The temple has a strong historical background dating back to the times of Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Rama while in search for Sita, was passing through the Brahmagiri hills when he asked Lakshman to get him some water, Laxman shot an arrow into the mountain from where started a stream which flows down as the Laxman tirtha. The stream flows at the back of the temple and devotees take a holy dip in the water. The shiva lingam first established in this area is believed to be kept by Lord Ram himself, he also wished to build a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in this region. Rameshwaram temple has another shrine dedicated to Lord Rama, a prominent figure in the history of the temple. The temple falls on the way to Iruppu falls or Nagarhole.
