The lifeline river of the region, is responsible for the green fields near Diskit. The road to Diskit goes along the Shyok river that goes beyond Hunder. Nubra river is a tributary to the Shyok River.

This river is also called as ‘River of Death’ as Shyok means ‘Sorrow’ in Ladakhi. River got its name from the ancient stories and mishappenings. However, at present Shyok river is nothing leaves the impression of beautiful painting on canvas.
