A well-known cloister in Ladakh, Hemis Monastery was developed by Stagchen Raschegn amid the 17th century. It is only 1.5 hours drive from the city of Leh and has a yearly celebration, which is amazingly engaging for voyagers. The religious community contains numerous Stupas, articles, beautiful Thangkas and copper overlaid Lord Buddha’s statue. Here, one can witness a 12m long Thanka which is said to be the biggest in Ladakh.
