                        “It was an amazing experience! The altitude is kinda high (that is around 15,500 ft.). People who haven’t visited/experienced this place before may suffer from suffocation, nausea, breathing problems and headache due to the high altitude. But other than that, it’s really a wonderful place to visit and it’s far better than any other spot among the mountains. People who may travel to Zero point are requested to take jackets, sweaters, gloves, boots and caps along with them as there is a presence of very chill air which may create some minor problems in children and adults as well. It will be better if the aged people do not visit that place. Thank you :) ”

                        “Of you are first timer to know what snow feels like, this is the place to be. Zero Point (Yumesamdong) is at an altitude of around 15000ft. Compared to Yumthang Valley, zero point has few visitors due to the low oxygen levels that might lead to breathlessness and numbing of the face and hands. It is a 2 and a half hour drive from Lachung, the closest human settlement. The roads at some places are bad, due to the landslide that had happened a few years ago. On the way you can see wild yaks grazing, rhododendrons and other wild flowers blooming (april-may), and a beautiful stream that flows along the road accompanying you on your journey. When you finally reach zero point (march-april, that’s when I went), you see snow on one side of the road, and no snow on the other side. It almost gives you a Leh-Ladakh feeling. It’s beautiful and the scenery is exquisite. It has tremendous tourist capacity. The temperature on that day would’ve been around 8-9 degrees, which wasn’t that cold to be honest. Make sure to carry sweaters, gloves, jackets and gum boots if possible. Locals have set up stalls where they sell tea/coffee, and even Breezer to keep warm if necessary. Gum boots are also sold. Sikkim is the place to be, and this has to be visited. But to visit this place and Yumthang valley on the way, you have to get up early and pull yourself out of your bed and leave by around 6. That is the only way you will be able to see snow capped mountains before sunrise (which look the best) and also you will be able to return before your hotel serves lunch. So time management is a must. Good luck and have fun :D”

A tributary of the river Teesta flows past the valley and the town of Lachung, the nearest inhabited centre. Yumthang is closed between December and March due to heavy snowfall.
