Hoshang’s Tomb

#Sight Seeing in Mandu

Reputed to be India’s oldest marble building, this imposing tomb is crowned with a crescent thought to have been imported from Persia or Mesopotamia. Inside, light filters into the echoing dome through stone jalis (carved lattice screens), intended to cast an appropriately subdued light on the tombs.

The tomb was constructed in 1435 and depicts typical Hindu influences. It is said that Shah Jahan sent his architects to study this double-domed structure before constructing Taj Mahal.
