The Jama Masjid in Delhi is one of the most largest and prominent mosques in India. This architectural beauty was constructed under the reign of Shah Jahan, commissioned by the Emperor himself. More than five thousand labourers and artisans were required to conceive and complete this grand project.

The mosque is constructed from red sandstone and white marble. The skeletal structure of the mosque consists of four towers and two towering minarets, each measuring forty metres. A typical characteristic of the Mughal style of architecture, the roof the mosque is composed of gigantic domes. Jama Masjid has ample open space, and can accommodate upto 25000 devotees. Beautiful pieces of calligraphy adorn the walls of mosque. This mosque is one of the highlights in any tourist’s itinerary. Jama Masjid is one destination which must surely be visited.
