Chettikulangara Devi Temple
Chettikulangara Devi Temple
It is believed that the Goddess takes up 3 forms – Maha Saraswati in the morning, Maha Lakshmi in the noon and Sree Bhadrakali in the evening. A major income in the temple is the Chanthattam – sap from teakwood, devotees believe will bestow prosperity on them. Known as the Kumbamela of the South, the Kumbabharani Festival is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety. Dance rituals are performed to honour the Goddess on this auspicious day. Enjoy a mix of internal bliss and peace in this holy land. Recently UNESCO collected details about the temple and its customs (Kuthiyottam, Kumbhabharani) in order to examine whether the temple is eligible for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
