Vishansar Lake, located little outside Sonamarg is a sparkling blue lake surrounded by lush green meadow, alpine flowers and white and silver mountains at a tantalizing distance. At an altitude of 3710 m, this one secures a width of about 0.6 km and is also a habitat to a number of species of fish.

Its name in Kashmiri dialect means “the Lake of Lord Vishnu” and really looks very divine, especially if viewed from the nearby peaks. The lush green meadows, dark green trees and snowcapped mountains provide the perfect backdrop. Nature lovers and avid photographers simply love the breathtaking beauty and ample opportunities for clicking their way around. The meadows are best to play on, stroll or just too lazy around for hours together. This lake is fed by the nearby Krishnasar Lake and other glaciers. Challenges are well set for trekking which trekkers merrily take up from Sonamarg and come here often. The best time to visit Vishansar Lake is from the month of April to June.
