Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand near Delhi, offer a plethora of trekking options for people of all age groups. Most of the treks are easy and moderate grades suitable even when going with family. So, why spend the money on temporarily relaxation in the city, when you can have the gift of nature with an enthralling and exciting weekend with your family, friends or solo. 




1. Triund Trek


Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Best Time for the Trek: March to May and September to December

Altitude/Height: 9,500 ft.

How to Reach: Delhi to Dharamshala/Pathankot by interstate bus or Volvo or train and then to McLeodganj by a local bus or shared taxi. Alternatively, the interstate Volvo goes to Mcleodganj as well.

Triund Trek is a beginners’ trek. It is perfect trek for the trekkers, to enjoy the first experience of Himalayan Trekking. The rocky trails going through the woods make this trek truly enchanting and memorable experience. Nothing can match the view of Dauladhar Mountains range from the top of the hill. You can view the Indrahar Pass from the hill.

Camping on this hill is a weekend hot spot for the adventure lovers in Delhi, Chandigarh and other nearby cities. They enjoy the time well spent with friends in this magical place. The basecamp  for the trek is well connected with buses and roads. You have no reason to miss out this short weekend trek as your next weekend adventure

2. Prashar Lake Trek


Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Best Time for the Trek: Year Around except January

Altitude: 10,000 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Mandi by an interstate or Volvo bus from Delhi. At Mandi get the shared bus or taxi to Baggi Village(35kms). The trek will start from Baggi Village.

The pristine trail of lower Himalayas leaves you wondering over the beauty of the place. The trails goes through the forests, completely covered with woods. The surrounding ;throughout the trek are wonderful with trees all around. Right at the end of tree, nature opens the arms and welcome the trekker with beautiful green velvet meadows. 

Reaching the point where you can see the Lake, and 3 Mountains Ranges, all in one panoramic view. Prashar Lake is one of the most sacred lakes in Himachal. The lake is surrounded with hills and hill locked with the meadows. The hills gives you the 180 degree view of Dauladhar Range, Pir Panjal range and Kinnaur mountain ranges. Lake is located at comfortable altitude, so you can trek any day just make you sure you put upon the right gear.


3. Chandrakhani – Malana Trek

Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Best Time for the Trek: April to November

Altitude: 10,000 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Manali/Naggar by an interstate or Volvo bus from Delhi. The trek will start from Naggar and will end in Malana village.

Chandrakhani Pass is one of the most beautiful and serene pass, at an altitude of 3660 m located in the Kullu valley. Chandrakhani Pass offers fabulous views of the Deo Tibba peak, Pir Panjal and Parvati range of mountains.

The trek is one of the most beautiful treks that introduces the traveler to the remote, hilly cultures of Himachal Pradesh. The snow lovers will love this adventure itinerary. This trek and camping experience are ideal for Spring trekking. 


4. Jalori Pass – Serolsar Lake trek

Difficulty Level: Easy

Best Time for the Trek: March to December

Altitude: 10,400 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Aut by an interstate or Volvo bus from Delhi. From Aut get a Taxi till Shoja and start the trek to Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake.

Serolsar is a beautiful lake situated in the middle of dense forest around Jalori Pass of Kullu District. The lake presents two different colors one in summer and another in winters. The warm view of the lake in summer is fit for camping and relaxing and the snowy views in winter is fit for a small halt and have a cup of coffee or any other warm drink.

Jalori Pass-Serolsar Lake Trek is, particularly for the adventure lovers. Though being a beginner’s trek, it is pretty rough and rugged. Best enjoyed with friends. For a traveler who always aspires to reach to the ends and do overnight camping, this is a perfect plan for him/her and friends. The trail will give you the glimpses of the completely untouched Tirthan valley.


5. Kheerganga Trek

Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Best Time for the Trek: April to November

Altitude: 13,000 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Bhuntar by an interstate or Volvo bus  from Delhi. From Bhuntar you can choose shared taxi or private cab to Kasol/Barshaini. Trek starts from Barshaini.

Kheerganga trek is very pleasant and offers some exhilarating vs. The vegetation changes dramatically and opens up into a flatland that is graced by the occasional tent. The natural hot-water-spring experience which is available en route is something that you will remember for a lifetime. 

Kheer Ganga is a holy place with a hot water spring, small temple of Lord Shiva and a bathing tank. It make a rare combination for any trekker to bath in hot spring water when everything is covered by snow. Kheerganga weather is very soothing for trekking. Though in monsoon it becomes a bit difficult for Kheerganga trekking. Though Kheerganga trek in July or August during peak monsoon is quite famous. 



6. Nag Tibba Trek

Best Time for the Trek: Round the year except July and August

Altitude: 10,000 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Dehradun by an interstate or Volvo bus or train from Delhi. From Dehradun you can choose share buses, share taxi or private cab to Mussoorie, hire a jeep or taxi to Pantwari or Devalsari.

One of the easiest treks in the Himalayas which will take you above 3,000 meters is the Nag tibba trek (Nag means Serpant, Tibba is peak in local dialects). Considered to be one of the best weekend treks from Delhi, the ‘Nag Tibba Trek’ near Mussoorie, is a trekker’s delight. Situated at almost 10000 ft. above sea level, ‘Nag Tibba’ or the ‘Serpent’s Peak’ is the highest peak in the Nagtibba range of the Garhwal Himalayas. The trek takes you through beautiful forests of oak and deodars. As you reach the Nag Tibba peak, you are welcomed with breath-taking views of the ‘Bandarpunch Peak’, ‘Kala Nag Peak’, ‘Swargarohini Peak’, ‘Kedar Nath Peak’ and ‘Gangotri’ group of peaks.

The Nag Tibba summit can be reached mainly via 2 routes. The first one is the shortest and starts from the Pantwari village, located at a distance of 85 km. from Dehradun. Due to the complexity of the route, it is recommended to hire a guide for this route. As you start from Pantwari, reach the base of the Nag Tibba peak in the late afternoon; spend the night in the camp and resume your journey to the peak next morning. The overnight camping at the base of the Nag Tibba peak requires permission from forest officials at Mussoorie.


7. Bedni Bugyal Trek

Difficulty Level: Easy

Best Time for the Trek: April to November

Altitude/Height: 11,000 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Haridwar/Rishikesh by an interstate or Volvo bus or train from Delhi. From Haridwar/Rishikesh you can choose share buses, share taxi or private cab to Lohajung.

The ‘Bedni Bugyal’, situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is another enchanting high altitude alpine meadow in India. Lush green slopes surrounded by forests of conifers and Garhwal Himalayan peaks make this place one of the most visited adventure weekend destinations near Delhi.

Trekking trails to Bedni Bugyal start from ‘Loharjung Pass’ and make their way through forests of oak and rhododendron up to the quaint little hamlet of Didina Village. You can take an overnight stay in the tents or home stays at this village. From Didina Village up to Ali Bugyal, the climb is steep and takes you through dense forest of oak trees.

Vast expanse of lush green meadow awaits you at Ali Bugyal from where you descend towards the Bedni Bugyal. Magical charm of a completely different form of nature’s beauty at Bedni Bugyal with enchanting vistas of the ‘Trishul Parvat’ and ‘Nanda Ghunti’ in the Himalayas, will take your breath away in seconds. Reflection of snow-capped mountain peaks in the ‘Bedni Kund’ at Bedni Bugyal, just adds to the magical charm of this beautiful meadow.


8. Chopta Chandrashila Trek

Difficulty Level: Easy

Best Time for the Trek: Round the year except July and August

Altitude/Height: 13,415 ft.

How to Reach: Reach Haridwar/Rishikesh by an interstate or Volvo bus or train from Delhi. From Haridwar/Rishikesh you can choose share buses, share taxi or private cab to Chopta.

The ‘Chopta Chandrashila Trek’ is another great weekend trek from Delhi that leaves you refreshed and rejuvenated from your monotonous work life. The trek starts from the small enchanting village of Chopta, located at a distance of around 450 km. from Delhi.

Nestled in the lap of Himalayas in Uttarakhand, the magical charm of the Chopta village overflowing with pink and red flower of rhododendron, forest of deodar and oak trees, will leave you mesmerized for few minutes. As you begin your journey to the Chandrashila peak; the wilderness of the thick rhododendron forests, a fresh breeze of air, and scenic vistas along the trekking trails, make you feel revitalized and invigorated.

After covering a distance of almost 3 km., your first stop is at the holy ‘Tungnath Temple’, one of the five Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. After a short break at the temple, you can resume your journey to the Chandrashila summit. Once you reach the top, you are sure to be taken aback with the stunning and panoramic vistas of the ‘Nanda Devi Peak’, ‘Kedar Peak’, ‘Chaukhamba Peak’ and other beautiful peaks in the area around.

9. Kareri Lake Trek

Best Time for the Trek: May to June, September to December.

Altitude/Height: 10,800 ft.

How to Reach: Delhi to Mcleodganj/Dharamshala by interstate bus or Volvo

The Kareri lake is fed by the melting snow of the Dhauladhar mountains. The water of the lake is clear and you will be able to see the bottom of the shallow lake. Simply speaking, it means you can get stunning blue-hour reflection pictures of the Himalayas on this lake.

The trek route itself goes along small streams and drinking water this fresh is the closest you can come to sipping nectar.


10. Bhrigu Lake Trek

Best Time for the Trek: May to October

Altitude/Height: 14,000 ft.

How to Reach: Delhi to Manali by interstate bus or Volvo and then to Gulaba through a private taxi.

Another beautiful high altitude alpine lake, the ‘Bhrigu Lake’ is also nestled amidst towering Mountains of Kullu-Manali region in Himachal Pradesh. Located on the east of ‘Rohtang Pass’, the lake gets its name from sage Bhrig who, according to the mythological legends, meditated here.

One of the popular weekend treks from Delhi, the ‘Bhrigu Lake Trek’ makes you leave all your worries behind, giving an opportunity to spend a peaceful weekend in the lap of the Mother Nature. The trek starts from a small village, Gulaba located enroute from Manali to Rohtang.

As you walk along the trails adorned with trees of cedar, birch and silver oak, tremendous views of green pasture lands decked with vibrant alpine flowers, sparkling rivulets, conspicuous apple orchards, striking peaks of ‘Hanuman Tibba’ and ‘Seven Sisters Peaks’, seem to be embracing you with its open arms. Captivating views of snow-covered peaks of ‘Dhauladhar’ and ‘Pir Panjal’ ranges cradling the turquoise blue lake in their lap, leave you spell bound for a few moments as you reach your destination.
