Mahamastakabhisheka, the head anointing ceremony of Lord Bahubali, or Gomateshwara. The ceremony, which comes once in 12 years where the 1,024-year-old monolith is anointed Jain monks carried the holy water from the Digambar Jain mutt to the venue. To the chant of hymns, the pontiff Charukeerthi Bhattarka filled a giant pot with rice and sealed it with silver coconut, signalling the inauguration of the spectacular event.

At about 470 feet above the ground, Vindhyagiri is a very famous hill. The 17.38 m high single stone idol of the Lord Gommateshwara also designated as Bahubali is situated above the hill Vindhyagiri or Doddabetta or Indragiri hill. This statue was established by Chavundaraya and is believed to be the world’s largest monolithic stone statue. The joy and bliss Lord Bahubali attained, is manifested in the benign smile on the face of the colossal image consecrated by King Chavundaraya.

Chandragiri hill is full of rock inscriptions written in ancient and medieval period. The oldest inscriptions are in Prakrit language. This hill is lower in heights than Vindhyagiri, helps you get an awesome view of Lord Gometshwara’s(Bahubali) statue. On this hill, you can see many beautiful and historical Jain temples, the meditation cave where Acharya Bhadrabahu meditated. This is cave is dedicated to Jain Monk Bhadrabahu Swami. He being the last ‘Shrut Kevali’ considered as the most influential Jain ascetic of that time. This cave is a mark of his last stay on Earth and also a symbol of spirituality and meditation. The cave is present on the Chandragiri Hill, which was named after the Chandragupta Maurya. Bhadrabhau swami was known as his spiritual teacher. His feet are too engraved near by the cave on the same hill.
