Zojila pass in the western section of the Himalayan mountain ranges is located on the Indian National Highway one between Srinagar and Leh. Zoji pass is termed as the gateway to the majestic Ladakh. The pass is 9 kms from Sonamarg and is an important link between Ladakh and Kashmir around 3528m that is 11, 649 ft. above the sea level. This pass is considered to be the second highest pass after Fotu La on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. You are going to have an amazing view of the mighty Himalayan Mountains, once you reach the pass, which makes the ride worth. This pass witnesses the heaviest snowfall during the winters and thus, remains closed to traffic for around six months in a year. Zojila also overlooks snowcapped summits and dense jungles, besides the lush green Dras valley.  While driving towards Zojila, travelers are expected to be centered between Kashmir basin on one side and Dras on the other. The lifeline of Ladakh is the 434 kms long highway stretch.

Thajiwas Glacier is located at the height of about 3000m above the sea level and this beautiful glacier is a hidden jewel of Kashmir and primary attraction of Sonmarg in summer. It proudly boasts of lush green meadows and soaring snow-capped mountain peaks, making it one of the most picturesque tourist destinations. The site is also famous among trekkers as the path is quite adventurous. One can also encounter the Gujjar tribes here. Thajiwas glacier is an offbeat destination that will revamp your senses, providing necessary respite from the scorching heat of summers. Views of horses grazing in the grasslands, pine and fir trees of nearby forests and small streams dotting the place will make the place an excellent visual treat. It remains covered in snow throughout the year, so winter visitors must not fret. Sledges can also be hired from Gujjars during peak season. Set up a camp, get some tea and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings.

Vishansar Lake, located little outside Sonamarg is a sparkling blue lake surrounded by lush green meadow, alpine flowers and white and silver mountains at a tantalizing distance. At an altitude of 3710 m, this one secures a width of about 0.6 km and is also a habitat to a number of species of fish. Its name in Kashmiri dialect means “the Lake of Lord Vishnu” and really looks very divine, especially if viewed from the nearby peaks. The lush green meadows, dark green trees and snowcapped mountains provide the perfect backdrop. Nature lovers and avid photographers simply love the breathtaking beauty and ample opportunities for clicking their way around. The meadows are best to play on, stroll or just too lazy around for hours together. This lake is fed by the nearby Krishnasar Lake and other glaciers. Challenges are well set for trekking which trekkers merrily take up from Sonamarg and come here often. The best time to visit Vishansar Lake is from the month of April to June.

The Gadsar Lake, situated 28 km from Sonamarg, is located at one of the most highest altitudes in Kashmir (5000 metres). It is a freshwater lake. The name ‘Gadsar’ when translated into Kashmiri literally means ‘The Lake of the Fishes.’ True to its name, this lake contains many fishes, most of them being trout. The Gadsar Lake is known for its trekking base, which can be reached while hiking up through the Alpine terrain. Due to the high quantity of fishes in this lake, fishing is another leisure activity enjoyed here. The Brown Trout is the most common fish caught here. The water body is surrounded by wild Alpine flowers, making the view mesmerizing. The lake is unaccessible in winter as it completely freezes over. Even during summers, small icebergs can be floating in the water. The Gadsar Lake is a must visit destination as one can experience nature in its primal form here.
