For anyone planning on spending a lot of time outdoors this summer, a good pair of hiking boots is an essential piece of gear. Hiking boots provide support and stability on uneven terrain, help protect your feet from rocks and roots, and keep your feet dry in wet conditions. There are a lot of different hiking boots on the market, but one brand that consistently produces high-quality footwear is Salomon. Salomon has been making outdoor gear since 1947, and their experience shows in their hiking boots. The Salomon Men’s X Ultra 3 Mid GTX Hiking Boots are a great option for anyone looking for a versatile boot that can handle a variety of terrain. These boots feature a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane to keep your feet dry in wet conditions, while still being breathable to prevent sweaty feet. The mid-height design provides support and stability on uneven ground, and the Contagrip outsole provides excellent traction on all surfaces. If you’re looking for a lighter weight boot that doesn’t sacrifice performance, the Salomon Men’s Sense Mantra 3 Running Shoes are an excellent option. These shoes have all the features of a traditional hiking boot like a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane and Contagrip outsole, but they’re designed specifically for running with a lighter weight construction. They also have an extra layer of cushioning to protect your feet from the impact of running on hard surfaces.

Product Summary: The Salomon Men‘s X Ultra 3 Mid GTX Hiking Boots are the perfect choice for your next hike. With a comfortable, supportive fit and a waterproof GoreTex membrane, these boots will keep your feet dry and comfortable all day long. The Contagrip outsole provides excellent traction on all surfaces, and the midcut design offers support and stability on rough terrain.

A 5-Star Review: Let me preface this by saying that I’m hard on shoes. I’m a utility meter reader. We walk many miles daily on both paved and unpaved surfaces. Keeping my feet dry and comfortable are the two biggest concerns. I have been using various Keen “waterproof” mid-tops with varying degrees of success and wanted to try another brand.

Comfort – 4/5. The insoles do not cup your feet and you can feel it, but they’re quite comfortable. Arch support is also good. There’s a lot of support all the way around your foot, giving great stability.

Grip – 5/5. Very grippy. A lot better than I’m used to with Keen.

Waterproofing – 2/5. The liner on these leaks like a sieve. Invest in waterproofing spray and bring extra socks. They do dry quickly, though.

Construction – 5/5. Seems solid. Unlike Keens, the soles aren’t a ton of layers waiting to come apart. I love the laces. They aren’t weak or too long. Also tend to stay tied better than I’m used to.

A Critical Review: I purchased these with the intent to get a few years out of them. Unfortunately that was not the case. I wore them 30 times (last time being 5/2/2020. The bottom of the boots are completely falling off. I can stick my finger in above the sole and go right into the foot area (cant touch my sock). They started to show wear VERY fast, but were holding on relatively well until about December (6 months). Then the sole started separating from the boot. Few wears after that, it was like a flappy mouth. Now they are all but completely destroyed.

My biggest issue being that I bought a pair of chinese made shoes that lasted me approximately 6 months or 24 uses. So i figured purchasing one of the biggest names in outdoor shoes, that I would get at least a year from them. I got approximately 6 more uses of them for the additional money. Its a real shame. Salomon used to produce some TOUGH stuff. Now it seems they have completely lost it, and now because of it have lost this customer.

Do NOT buy if you are hard on shoes or work outdoors. These are basically for the couple camping trips a year and definitely NOT for hard working activity.

Note: I did not even get to hike with them. I just wear them to cut my grass. They lasted 30 mows of my quarter acre before becoming unwearable. Unacceptable…

A 5-Star Review: These boots are pretty much perfect for me. Super lightweight, and just the right amount of support in pretty much every spot. Waterproofing was superb as well, we went followed a river up for a while and my feet never got a drop of water on them. Definitely would buy again.

A Critical Review: I feel like I’m wearing slippers in these things. They are super light weight. My feet feel lighter than not having shoes on. After not much wear they have a pretty funky smell. I’m embarrassed to wear them inside. Otherwise they’d get a 5 star for a light duty boot.

A Critical Review: Small and both feet different

A 5-Star Review: If I have buy shoes again I would hesitate to buy this shoes same brand I’m happy with my purchase thanks.

A Critical Review: I’ve been wearing Salomon boots for several years. But I don’t like these boots for multiple reasons.

First off. They leak…..which sucks when your walking in central Africa, and feet in your boots really really sucks…..

There is a strange plastic cup for the heal, that goes over your ankle. When Im going down something steep, the plastic jambs into the side of my ankle, which doesn’t hurt……for the first 30 times, then it starts to really hurt.

The 90° lace holders, which transition between the top of your foot, and going up your ankle. Are legitimately a pain to get the kaces out of. It’s ripping the laces up, and only a matter of time before they snap.

You know what else is hard to get, in a really rural area of central Africa…… Yup…. Boot laces……

Ha inf these boots for two months, I shouldn’t have the chunks ripped out of the soles like I do…. They just aren’t very durable. My other Salomon boots just keep kicking, but these…… I dunno….. Theyre just failing for me in multiple ways.

I gotta say, the stitching is holding well, and there’s no obvious peeling of the soles from the boot.

It the fact that BOTH boots are letting water in. Is really disappointing. I was just scooping some water out of a stream as well, was only in the water for a few moments.

With it being both boots. It’s less of an accident in my opinion, and more of a construction failure.

A 5-Star Review: Wanted a new shoe for the trails. They’re waterproof, stuck my shoe in the creek and my foot stayed dry. Stayed comfy all day long. This is my new go to brand, thanks Amazon for suggesting them. 😉

A Critical Review: I really liked this pair of shoes when I got them . Comfortable, light weight, and looked good. After four months of moderate use hiking the sole has worn down considerably. I’ve lost a lot of traction making some paths extra slippery at times. I would’ve liked them to last more than one summer of hiking.

A 5-Star Review: The shoes are high quality and very soft/comfortable soles. However, the shoes did run a bit tighter than past Salomon shoes I’ve bought, they haven’t loosened up too much. I have wide feet, and other Salomon shoes fit great, but you might want to buy this pair a size or .5 more than usual if you have wide feet

A 5-Star Review: El diseño, la calidad y el ajuste de las botas

A Critical Review: I have used these boots for only 30 days now hiking fairly tamed trails all paved with very little incline. With that being said the early signs of wear on these boots scream poor materials and quality control. These’s boots may literally fall apart after a years of light used they might last 90 day of real outdoor hiking in rough terrain. The insoles were nonexistent so buying a good pair of insoles is a must for these.the stitching most of been done by a dog, lose string everywhere not sure how this hasn’t riped apart yet. The shoe glue they used must of actually been dog water becuase its already showing signs of wearing offbI might as well just hike bare footed at this point. I think I’ll give these too my dog he might be able to put them to better use.

A 5-Star Review: Copies for my husband he loves them

A Critical Review: This was a horrible transaction. I love the boots but the size runs at least a half size too small and therefore I could not use them. when I tried to send them back for a replacement of a larger size I found that the policy of Backcountry ( seller ) states that they do not accept items to be replaced.. Normally, I would just send them back and buy a larger size But low and behold, the price went up over night…. Jeeees. When I reached out to Backcountry, they acknowledged the price increase but said there was nothing they could do. I just feel like they could have honored the original price.
Timing is everything, but this time it was a miss.

Salomon Hiking Boots Mens # 12) Salomon Men’s Discovery GTX Hiking Boot

Men's Discovery GTX Hiking Boot

Product Summary: The Salomon Men‘s Discovery GTX Hiking Boot is a great choice for your next hike. With a waterproof and breathable GoreTex membrane, you‘ll be sure to stay dry and comfortable on the trail. The Contagrip outsole provides superior traction on a variety of surfaces, while the Ortholite insole ensures lasting comfort.

A 5-Star Review: I tried on over a dozen pairs of boots at REI intending to buy some, but even with prices ranging over I was highly disappointed. I loved the fit of Salomons, but they only had a really heavy duty boot and a very light boot. I came home and did some research and found these listed as a light backpacking boot… exactly what I was looking for, something light enough for day hikes, but good enough for some backpacking. I took the chance and ordered them knowing that I liked the fit of the Salomons. I love them!

The styling is great, the fit is great, and they are lightweight for backpacking boot. I am impressed by the lacing system that allows you to keep the bottom part of the laces looser and tighten up the ankle nicely. Also, the Salomons are the only boot I tried on that actually have a nice footbed. All of the other brands I would have had to put in a Superfeet insole. I may do that with these, but so far it feels like they don’t need it.

There was a little confusion on the color of these boots. Swamp sounds like it would be green, and some google searching led me to photos of this boot that looked greenish. The Amazon photo is accurate though, it’s definitely more of a grayish color, which is what I was hoping for.

A Critical Review: A friend in the military recommended Salomon to me when I was looking for boots or shoes with excellent ankle support – I tore up both ankles in high school and one or the other since. Living in the woods, the opportunities for ankle-turning are excellent. I tried these and they’ve really done the job. One great strength is you can adjust the lacing for different tensions between the lower part and the upper part as the lace is firmly held by the large metal tab about two-thirds of the way up. My flat feet prefer a firm but not tight hold around the arch while my ankles want it as tight as it can be without hindering circulation. The GTXs handle this better than any other shoes or boots I’ve tried, including military boots going back to the old jungle boots on up to the present issue (former Marine, former Soldier). The tread lugs are large enough to grip but separated enough that slush, snow, and mud are easily shed so the grip is maintained. Traction on wet surfaces, such as rocks, is good. My ankles? I used to turn them walking across the yard. Now when I misstep, I can feel the ankles being firmly supported and I’ve had no painful incidents. One caution: the laces are slick which results in a willingness to become loose around the knot – double-knotting and tucking the lace loops into the boot has helped this. I’ve worn them for several months now and am very happy. Highly recommended.
***Edit*** All the above was true, until the rubber sole began disintegrating. While the ankle support remains firm, on both shoes the heels and forward soles have lost rubber, exposing the underlying plastic base. There is a noticeable squeak when walking from both shoes. I’ve used these on house floors, yards, some sand and stone, some forests, but not under heavy loads nor particularly sharp terrain (e.g., hard lava fields). I’m now looking for other shoes.

A 5-Star Review: These are the best hiking boots I have ever owned. They carried me up to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro with more than 13,000 feet of elevation gain over 42 miles round trip. On the trail, I experienced every surface imaginable: mud, sand, rock, volcanic scree, snow, and ice, starting with tropical weather (very hot and rainy) at the bottom and arctic weather on top, and the entire time my feet were warm and dry. They have the kind of traction that would make Spiderman jealous.

Due to weight limitations, I could not afford to bring another pair of shoes at camp and ended up wearing this pair of boots at all times. Despite this, my feet were incredibly comfortable throughout. The boots need no break-in period either — I only took them on an easy eight-mile hike before the trip.

If I had to have one gripe, it would be that the shoelaces tend to get undone more than I’d like, but with a few adjustments, the problem mostly goes away.

A 5-Star Review: Really my only negative comment is that these boots run about half a size smaller than my shoe size. If you tend to hike in cooler temps and wear thicker socks, I’d recommend going a full size larger than your normal size. Otherwise, these boots are one of the best pairs I have ever owned. They are supremely comfortable and break in very easily. A day or two of moderate walking will do it. They look very nice in the Moab orange– not too flashy, but remark worthy. I wore them daily during the four months I was in Afghanistan and they came out of that experience with only the most superficial scuffs. A wipe with a damp cloth cleaned them up and they still look remarkably good. So far, the boot’s waterproofing has been fairly well tested– I have walked through ankle deep water and not a drop got through. I have walked in the rain and my feet were the only part of me that stayed dry. The boots have great stability and ankle support for moving over difficult terrain. The soles have sufficient grip for climbing and descending fairly steep grades. One minor thing: The boots do not breathe that well. For me that has meant fairly sweaty socks at the end of the day. If you are considering these boots for long term excursions in hot or humid conditions, I would factor that into your thinking. As far as I am concerned, this shortcoming is so minor that it doesn’t even take away a star from the boots’ rating. These are excellent, versatile boots that deserve your consideration.

A Critical Review: The design and quality of construction of the Comet 3D GTX hiking boot are very good. It is lightweight however with the plastic stiffeners in the sole, I estimate one has plenty of support to carry a 40 lb backpack. The tread looks very aggressive, and it looks like one would have plenty of traction of all kinds of traction on slippery rocks, or roots.

Normally I take a 9D (Medium) in shoes, but in trying on the 9D for the Comet, it immediately felt tight across the instep area, even though I have room in the toe box. I then tried on the 9.5 D size, and while that was better, it was still too tight around the instep to be comfortable for long hours of wear. I can imagine walking all day on the trail, and having one’s feet swell up, only to realize that by even loosening the shoes laces in the instep area, still gives no relief from the pressure. Therefore I am reluctantly going to have to return the boots.

I really wanted to love this boot, because the quality of the design, the good craftsmanship, the lightweight, but good support, and the good looks, but if the boot doesn’t fit, it will not work, and hence my down rating from 4 stars to 3 stars.

A 5-Star Review: I have not had a chance to wear these yet since I just had my hernia repaired, however, they appear as advertised and I’m really looking forward to them.
The Bad (known) – I’m not really a fan of the orange/yellow highlights, but that’s such a small detail I don’t really care.

The Good (known) – The hardened toe and heel are a great asset to someone who plans on doing some serious bouldering. They are also very light and don’t feel like a “big boot”. Gortex inner should be great, “waterproof” outer (waterproof does not mean you can go swimming in them). They even have a fungus inhibitor built in to keep the athletes foot to a minimum.

Overall, I can’t wait to strap these babies on and put some miles on them. The price was very good for a boot made by a quality company. I will try and update this review after I’ve put some use to them.

A Critical Review: Boots arrived excatly on date advised (Sydney, Australia). Bought size 12.5 as my usual size of 12 didn’t quite fit (due to rigid toe cap). Salomon don’t bring half sizes into Oz over 12. Have taken these boots on 2 walks so far. Sydney walkers would know descent at Wentworth Falls to Vera Falls and Hippocrene. These boots provided suitable downhill support without smashing your toes to front of boot. Boot is very flexible and provides good movement for heading back up the ascent.
Two things: 1. The boot is not water proof. Dipped foot in water to first lace loop for 10 seconds. Minor leaking in both boots at toe. 2. Lacing took a while to work out. Boot could do with a lace lock in the configuration. Remedied this by putting a tie prior to lacing through the last loop. This locks the heel in.
I think this is a great boot for day walks where flexibility is an absolute must (which means most local day walks in my area). Plus the boot looks good and is not something your old dad would wear.

Salomon Hiking Boots Mens # 19) Salomon Men’s Camping Low Rise Hiking Boots

Men's Camping Low Rise Hiking Boots

Product Summary: The Salomon Men‘s Camping Low Rise Hiking Boots are a great choice for your next hike. With a comfortable fit and a durable design, these boots will keep your feet comfortable all day long. The breathable mesh upper will keep your feet cool, while the waterproof design will keep them dry in wet conditions.

A 5-Star Review: Even though the balls of my feet are wider than the average foot, and these boots are not made for Wide feet, they did a fantastic jog of supporting my feet and ankles. They have great support for high arched feet. Even though there was excessive rainy weather, during my hiking on the A.T., they kept my feet dry and warm. The soles did not clump up with mud, like many other types of boots/shoes that I’ve worn in the past, which helped keep a good grip on the trail. I’m Very Satisfied with these boots.

The 4D Advanced Chassis provides stability and support, while the Contagrip outsole provides superior traction. Plus, the boot is lined with a comfortable Ortholite sockliner.

A 5-Star Review: This is ideal for smaller people who are looking for something ultralight & really comfortable. When I called Salomon after buying them and said essentially that I could feel every rock on the rough NE trails they said this was not a heavyweight backpacking boot as it was sold to me. The soles are not rigid which has to be kept in mind on steep and uneven territory. But for the alps or CA groomed trails, these excel.

Consider insoles to make them less sensitive. I moved from leather Lowas which were tanks to these, and while the weight savings was profound (these weigh in at 1.6lbs each for 12.5) a little more rigidity would help.

A Critical Review: So I had a pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX for about 2 years and never had any problem with them but abrasion was really taking it’s tole so I was worried they would break on trail and I had an unlimited lifetime warranty (through a retailer) so I decided to return them and bought a pair of Cosmic 4D GTX’s on Amazon. They look great, they support the ankle really well, they feel great (I noticed the support issue that the #1 rated reviewer had as well but I kind of liked the rough more natural feel to them), and they do wonderful against water (to start). But I took them on one 4-day canoe trip along with a couple of short hikes and then had to go back to school so they got put away for a few months. While I was at school I decided to go on a 6 week, 1200 km hike and I figured that my nearly new boots would be up to the challenge. I ended up walking about 25km per day for the first week and by day 6 the right boot started to have holes along the upper (it was very wet and by this time they had also lost some of their waterproofing but it really started to go with the holes). By day 40 (ending average was about 30km per day), the holes covered most of the upper along the bottom of the tongue on both boots. I gotta say I was really surprised by the durability issue I encountered overall, especially since it started after about 2 weeks of total use. I won’t buy these boots again (although mostly because I’m looking for something lighter) and am very disappointed with them, but I do believe that most of these boots can handle the challenges that hikers put them through and that there was simply something wrong with my pair. Be careful when buying!

Salomon Hiking Boots Mens # 21) Salomon Men’s Explorer GTX Hiking Boot

Men's Explorer GTX Hiking Boot

Product Summary: The Salomon Men’s Explorer GTX Hiking Boot is a boot designed for the hiker who wants a boot that is comfortable, lightweight, and provides good support. The boot is made with a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex membrane, which will keep your feet dry and comfortable even when hiking in wet conditions. The boot also has a Contagrip outsole, which provides good traction on various surfaces.

A 5-Star Review: Take this for what its worth,,,this is the first pair of real hiking boots ive purchased,,,a boots a boot ,,,Just got back from a steep hike 2500 ft in three miles and and a 40 lbs pack,,after a short break in period feel great,,ya worth the money

A Critical Review: I have bought these boots because I needed some good-looking fine boots.
When then arrived I saw that the buttonholes (grommets) were poorly made, they were not aligned. The eyelets are attached to the boot by rivets and these rivets are coated with silicone so that no water can enter inside the shoe, but as these buttonholes were poorly attached so the water gets into the boots.
Poorly made, it seems that there is no quality control for these people.
My disappointment was big because I look pretty in the details because of my profession (Industrial Designer), and you can clearly see that the boot is poorly constructed. Unfortunately for me I do not live in USA, which is why I cannot return them.
