Hi Tec hiking boots are some of the most popular on the market, and for good reason. They offer a great fit, plenty of support and comfort, and are very durable. I have had a pair of Hi Tecs for years and they have never let me down.

If you are in the market for a new pair of hiking boots, I would highly recommend giving Hi Tecs a try. You won’t be disappointed.

A 5-Star Review: I’ve had problems with planners fasciitis for a long time. These boots were a game changer for me. The most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever worn. And they last a long time great for hunting and hiking and every day work.

A Critical Review: They appear to be well built boots…. but I was quite disappointed in the color. As pictured in the ad the boots had a rich chocolate color, but in actuality they are very dark brown, almost black. I was intending to wear them as a dress boot, but I guess I will be limited to using them as a hiking boot.

A 5-Star Review: This is my second pair that I have purchased. I am very happy with their performance and wear. It’s a good boot at a decent price.

A Critical Review: dislike made in china

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 3) HI-TEC Altitude VI I WP Leather Waterproof Women’s Hiking Boots, Trail and Backpacking Shoes

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: HI-TEC Altitude VI I WP Leather Waterproof Women's Hiking Boots, Trail and Backpacking Shoes by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: The Hi-Tec Altitude VI I WP Leather Waterproof Women’s Hiking Boots are perfect for any trail or backpacking adventure. With a waterproof leather upper and a Vibram outsole, these boots are built to withstand any terrain. A gusseted tongue keeps out debris, and a moisture-wicking lining keeps your feet dry and comfortable all day long.

A 5-Star Review: I wore these for a whole week in Colorado through rainstorms, Rocky Mountains and wet hikes. I even stepped in a puddle and the inside of one shoe got a little wet but felt like it dried within half an hour. They are incredible. So comfortable too. They fit well with normal socks and ski socks. Very happy with my purchase. Will buy this brand again if I ever need another pair!!!

A Critical Review: I find the narrow tongue does not lay flat and cover the eyelets adequately and the material of the forefoot is too stiff to allow the laces to tighten the boots around the foot decently. I do like the waterproofing and the supportive footbed and traction lugs.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 4) HI-TEC Black Rock WP Mid Men’s Waterproof Hiking Boots, Lightweight Breathable Backpacking and Trail Shoes

A 5-Star Review: I ordered these to go on a big hiking trip. I wore them around a little to break in. I was happy with them they were very comfortable. Then I went on my hiking trip about 2 hours in my feet really began to hurt especially on my heels. Felt like something in mt boot. It was the orange lining that goes around the cushion. It’s hard enough to really bother me. 4 hours later I could not wait to get these off. i had blister by my big toe and my heel is very tender still 2 days afterMaybe as someone said in their review I should wear a thicker sock or a sock liner. They held up waterproof wise

A Critical Review: they didn’t fit, too small. sent them back.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 5) HI-TEC Ravus Mid Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Outdoor Trekking Shoes

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: HI-TEC Ravus Mid Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Outdoor Trekking Shoes by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: The HI-TEC Ravus Mid Hiking Boots for Men are the perfect choice for your next outdoor adventure. With a lightweight and breathable design, these trekking shoes will keep your feet comfortable all day long. The durable outsole provides traction and stability on any terrain, while the cushioned insole ensures hours of comfortable wear.

A 5-Star Review: I usually take a 10.5 wide. This product was not available in wide so I got 11. The fit is very good. Evaluation of traction, wearability and waterproofness will have to wait for some outdoor activities.

A Critical Review: Wanted a inexpensive pair of boots to replace my worn out yard work boots. Like the boots overall but the insoles are an absolute joke and they are glued in at the heel. With a little effort, replaced with a set of Dr. Scholes insoles. Boots plus insoles? Probably should have just bought a better quality boot to begin with.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 6) Hi-Tec Men’s Logan Waterproof Hiking Boot

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: Hi-Tec Men's Logan Waterproof Hiking Boot by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: Looking for a tough and rugged hiking boot that can take on any terrain? Then check out the Hi-Tec Men’s Logan Waterproof Hiking Boot. This boot is made with a waterproof suede and mesh upper to keep your feet dry and comfortable, and a cushioned EVA midsole for added support. The Vibram rubber outsole provides traction and stability on any surface, and the gusseted tongue keeps out dirt and debris. Whether you’re hitting the trails or just exploring the great outdoors, the Hi-Tec Men’s Logan Waterproof Hiking Boot is a great choice.

A 5-Star Review: Realmente he tenido varias botas de esta marca pero este modelo realmente no llenó mis espectativas. No son tan cómodas ni acolchadas.

A Critical Review: Go up half a size and go wide on these. The boots I received didnt exactly match the photo in the listing. The color of the plastic around the soul wasnt an exact match. Not much of an issue, but it made the rest of the boots look cheap.

I had a pair of these that lasted me for years, they’re at a great price point, and if you dont need a more expensive outdoor fashion brand to go hiking, then these will do the job.

That said, I may try the Merrils next. My current pair are Columbia and have lasted quite a few years worn daily. You’ll need to pay more for Merril or Columbia, these HiTechs are a solid bargain by comparison.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 7) HI-TEC Ravus WP Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Outdoor Trekking Shoes

These lightweight and breathable trekking shoes are waterproof and provide excellent support and traction on any terrain. With a comfortable fit and a durable design, these boots will keep your feet comfortable and dry all day long.

A 5-Star Review: I’m a land surveyor on my feet all day on all types of surfaces. These are fairly comfy and light weight. Only thing is they run a little small so you will need a half size larger than normal.

A Critical Review: nine out of ten times I wear a 10.5 size shoe. Every once in a while I need a size 11. But I doubt an 11.5 would have fit me in this shoe. Very cramped, too short, too narrow, not enough room for the top of my foot arch. Very disappointed. Returns are such a pain. I just wish i had known to buy 1 full-size larger than usual.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 8) Hi-Tec Women’s Bandera Mid-Rise Waterproof Hiking Boot

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: Hi-Tec Women's Bandera Mid-Rise Waterproof Hiking Boot by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: Keep your feet dry and comfortable on the trail with these Hi-Tec Bandera hiking boots. They’re made with a waterproof leather and mesh upper to keep out the elements, and feature a mid-rise design for added support. The EVA foam insole provides cushioning, while the Vibram outsole delivers traction and durability.

A 5-Star Review: I like everything about the boots except the toe box is a bit hard and rigid and the shoe strings could be longer and thicker. Unfortunately I will have to return.. no half size available in my size. Overall it’s a nice looking boot.

A Critical Review: These boots look nice and seem to be pretty sturdy. I ordered a half size up because the reviews said they ran small but they are a little big on me so, for me, they are true to size. I wore these boots on my trip to the mountains this weekend – the only shoes I brought with me., I planned to hike and do a lot of walking but nothing that requires super heavy duty hiking boots. I wore them for four or five hours strolling around on dry grass which was fairly level.. They were uncomfortable especially across my toes. I doubled up on my socks and that helped to make them fit and also to shield my toes from the boots digging in. And then….I bent down to tie one of the boots and snap. Off went the top loop that secures the boot across the ankle. I couldn’t believe it. I saw some reviews about that happening but I felt maybe there was a small batch of boots that were not made right and I didn’t have to worry about it.

II was wrong. I tried walking along with the boot tied below the last hook but they were just too uncomfortable. I ended up spending a lot for hiking boots in the Adirondacks and was not pleased considering I spent a lot of time comparing boots and choosing ones i thought would be right for me and that I could afford. I am returning these boots.

They are also a bit heavy but that wouldn’t have been an issue in and of itself. I would have put insoles in to take up the extra space as well. But with the broken hook, they really need to be returned. I guess all I can say is that these are cute, they run true to size for me, and that you are taking your chances when you buy these. If the top loops hold up, these seem sturdy and pretty well made., If not, just hope you have back ups. I wish I had thought to bring an extra pair of shoes with me!

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 9) HI-TEC Destroyer Mid Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Outdoor Backpacking or Trail Running Shoes

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: HI-TEC Destroyer Mid Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Outdoor Backpacking or Trail Running Shoes by Store HI-TEC Store

These boots are built to last with a tough leather and mesh upper that can take on anything you throw at it. The Vibram outsole provides unbeatable traction and stability on any surface, while the EVA midsole ensures hours of comfortable wear. Whether you’re hitting the trails or the streets, the HI-TEC Destroyer Mid Hiking Boots for Men have got you covered.

A 5-Star Review: At first I was skeptical because they were so light and they seemed less durable than my Keens but after wearing them for several months and putting them through what I would put any work boot through, they almost look brand new.
I’ve run them through the wash twice and put them out to dry and I’ve seen no damage from the washing machine and they dry in record time compared to any other shoes I have.

My new boot

PS
They are a third of the cost of the previous chapter

A Critical Review: I loved the quality and lightness but they were just too narrow for my wide feet.

A 5-Star Review: I bought these after searching the internet high and low for a decently made hiking boot and that in itself took some doing…

Since China does most of the work on most things it seems, the Quality Control is a MAJOR issue. So when you do want to buy something, be sure to do as much research as you can stand, I did, and I can’t promise that I have done enough when it comes to these boots for this review, at least yet.

I like the looks of these O.K., these were not my first pick, had I gone with the looks alone, and not read reviews, I would have bought several others that looked good, and would seem like a good buy. Thankfully I didn’t do that, but looks-wise, I’m not happy, black is not what I wanted. When first looking, I saw many, many, many that caught my eye visually, but after reading, they weren’t worth the money. I do wildlife photography, so I need to not stand out, if I had my choices of colors, I would’ve gone with a sage, gray, a lighter tan, or even a medium colored brown. They do offer 2 browns in this style, but I saw one of them in person, I was not excited about that, at all. The brown boot has around 3 or 4 different colors on it, so it was strange looking, at least to me. I wanted ‘plain’, and the brown ones weren’t, so I was left with the black, and almost backed out from buying them, then at the last minute, I got ’em on Amazon.

Now that I have them, they fit pretty well, the first day the tongue hurt my inside left ankle, I untied them and repositioned it, it felt fine for a couple of minutes, then it started hurting again, that happened around 3-4 times. Finally, I took them off (at home) and tried to see what was going on, I never found anything, but when I put them on again, they were fine, it was just enough ‘kink’ in the ‘soft’ tongue to hurt, I guess.

I really like the feel of the outside leather though, it’s a ‘never have to polish’ type, (oiled leather) and the style is good, in black, it appears completely different than the brown ones, for some reason, and looks a lot better to me. They do look very tactical, not a look I was going for, but that might be a factor for some, I guess.

The comfort is O.K., I wouldn’t go as far as to say they are “one of the most comfortable” I have owned, like others have said in their reviews, they don’t feel like they are broken in to me, (yet) but I’ve only had them around a week. I have not hiked in them yet at all, so that in itself is something I’ll deal with as it happens. I will (hopefully remember to) come back and add to this review.

The pricing is pretty good on these, I looked at a LOT of boots similar, and the prices are all over the place.

The lace eyelets appear to be made well, they are not plastic, so that will hopefully mean that I won’t break one while lacing up to go somewhere. The shoestrings themselves appear good too, while it’s still early on that, time will tell, but they don’t feel like those that are made from a material that won’t stay tied. I do double-tie them anyway, I’ve gotten used to that in the last 30 years or so.

These look smaller than my last pair of hiking boots, and narrower too, but they are a 9-1/2 D (M) like what I wear in shoes and boots, so when I ordered, I was really hoping the sizes would be more to size. I went to a local store to purchase these, they didn’t have them, but I did try on some other style Hi-Tec hiking boots to see how their sizes ran, and a 9-1/2 (M) was a 9-1/2 (M), so that made me feel better when I ordered. (At least in my case)

As it is now, I don’t have anything to say negative about these, they are O.K. comfort-wise, but not perfect, and hopefully I’ll remember to do a follow up on this as times goes on.

When buying these, or anything, always read reviews if you don’t want to get short-changed, Quality Control is almost a thing of the past, so in order to buy something that will be worth your money, do your research first!

I wanted to update on these boots… 12-21-2013
They are pretty nice, I really like them, the ONLY thing I have found is that the soles are VERY SLIPPERY on certain flooring, tiles, or even concrete. I almost slipped today while I walked into a Braum’s, then when I was about to walk into my doorway, I almost slipped, this may be the first time I have been in the (pouring) rain, but still, just a word of caution, it may be just me, or maybe it is the boots themselves. I’d still recommend them though, just be careful.

A Critical Review: The original Description of the Hi-Tec Altitude hiking boot on Amazon said that the boot was made of Nu buck leather. the leather in these hiking boots cheep stiff leather I tried to put boot leather oil on the hiking boots and they will not soften they are still stiff and hard to tighten with the laces, I have purchased Hi-Tec boots in the past with Nu buck Leather, you did not have to put boot oil on them to make them soft.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 13) Hi-Tec Men’s Altitude VI I Waterproof Hiking Boot

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: Hi-Tec Men's Altitude VI I Waterproof Hiking Boot by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: The HiTec Men‘s Altitude VI I Waterproof Hiking Boot is a great choice for your next hike. With a waterproof and breathable upper, these boots will keep your feet dry and comfortable all day long. The EVA midsole provides cushioning and support, while the Vibram outsole delivers traction and stability on all surfaces.

A 5-Star Review: I bought a pair of hi-tec boots around 15 years ago and they were the shoes I wore nearly every day. That’s right, they lasted that long. Amazing boots, best pair I ever owned.

So, after doing a bit of research I decided to buy these as a replacement. I was a little worried since I bought them here at amazon so I didn’t get to try the boots on. I ordered 1/2 inch larger than my foot was with one of those measuring devices and it turned out to be a perfect fit.

The boots felt comfortable the very first time I put them on, so there wasn’t any discomfort due to breaking them in. When I first saw the boots I was a little worried since the leather looks so different from my 15 year old pair, but I think that’s just how leather is. Over time you get that aged leather look (I think).

I haven’t walked through any standing water, but have walked around normal amounts of snow and water and no issues so far. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because I haven’t had the boot that long. I don’t expect any issues, but I have only had them for about 2 months now. So far so good.

A Critical Review: Got these for my son to wear in shop class and for light hiking. Great looking boots, looked good for town and country as it were. Unfortunately, on his way home the FIRST DAY HE WORE THEM (of course), he was skateboarding and the lugs for the string on the upper outside of the boot came in contact with the road. As you can see, the boot isn’t even scuffed so it must have been a very light contact, but those suckers sheered right off, rendering the boot useless. I think better quality hardware would not have failed completely and immediately. Or perhaps spending a few extra pennies and using flexible, form fitting eyes like I have on my Columbia’s would fix the problem. Anyway, good price for a nice looking boot, I just wouldn’t count on them for anything serious. I did not attempt to return the pair that failed, so I can’t comment on that.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 14) HI-TEC Women’s Altitude Vi I Waterproof Hiking Boot

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: HI-TEC Women's Altitude Vi I Waterproof Hiking Boot by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: The Hi-Tec Altitude Vi I WP hiking boot is a great choice for your next outdoor adventure. With a waterproof construction, this boot will keep your feet dry and comfortable all day long. The padded collar and tongue provide added comfort, while the EVA midsole provides cushioning and support. The Vibram outsole provides excellent traction and durability, making this boot a great choice for any terrain.

A 5-Star Review: I love these boots. I cannot get out to shop, so I bought these in both a 7.5 and an 8. After trying both on and walking around the house, I returned the former, deciding they were a little too tight with heavy socks. The 8 initially felt a little loose in the heal because it does not come in different widths and my heals are very narrow, but when I tied them up, they did not slip even a little. They were immediately comfortable, and when I tried them out around the neighborhood, they gave such good support that my chronic back pain was diminished. I took them on a ten day adventure trip to Alaska, where I wore them every day, just about all day. They showed no evidence of wear and were continually comfortable. I had no pain in my feet at the end of long days. I will continue to wear them around town just because of the added support in comparison with general walking shoew.

A Critical Review: PROS: Even though the shoes have become narrower in this new style, they still fit my wide feet. They also have much better arch support (I have high arches) than they used to.

CONS: The lacing system has changed. Now there are some kind of metal triangles on hinges which the laces pass through. Unfortunately, they are so big compared to the laces that they don’t hold the laces in place. It is very hard to tie the shoes tight. The laces are also very short, so there is barely enough lace to make a secure knot.

UPDATE: After a few hikes, the hard corner of the tongue has started digging into my foot, making the shoes pretty unwearable.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 15) Hi-Tec Women’s Wn Logan Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot

Hi Tec Hiking Boots: Hi-Tec Women's Wn Logan Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot by Store HI-TEC Store

Product Summary: Hi-Tec Sports is a company that specializes in making lightweight hiking boots. They were founded in 1978, and they continue to design and develop boots carefully dedicated to comfort, light weight, and quality. Hi-Tec Sports distributes their products in over 70 countries, and they sell over 10 million pairs of footwear annually.

A 5-Star Review: The boots are light weight and have good ankle, stability support and traction. They run big. I am an 8 1/2-9 -ordered the 9. They were very loose. While the foot/arch support is OK–I bought orthotics that take up the space and support my feet better. They are perfect now.

I have very weak & skinny ankles and have sprained them repeatedly. These boots and a staff really help me while hiking to not roll my ankle. I have walked through creeks and deep mud and my feet have stayed dry-even when hosing the mud off. After being soaked they dry very quickly. They keep my feet warm in cold weather but are not too hot in warm weather.

During break in–which was minimal-I did have ankle wear pain but that went away quickly. No blisters but I didn’t wear them on a long hike until they were broken in properly & comfortable.
I would buy them again and recommend them. Just don’t upsize unless you are going to add insoles.

A Critical Review: They are great boots. And new, but that stain on the left boot was an unpleasant surprise.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 16) HI-TEC Inca WP Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Trail and Backpacking Shoes

Inca WP Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots for Men, Lightweight Breathable Trail and Backpacking Shoes

Product Summary: If you’re looking for a tough, breathable, and comfortable boot for your next outdoor adventure, you need the HI-TEC Inca WP Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot for Men. These lightweight trail and backpacking shoes are perfect for any terrain, and they’ll keep your feet dry and comfortable all day long. With a waterproof and breathable membrane, a cushioned midsole, and a tough rubber outsole, these boots are ready for anything.

A 5-Star Review: light
waterproof
flexible
easy to break in
secure lacing
good traction

A Critical Review: The product arrived in good condition.
The boot fit as expected. Very comfortable.
Would have been nice purchase but……
After two days, the front toe guard started to peel off. I mean really peel off, not just slightly, along with, the eyelet that the lace goes through in the boot, popped out. It’s one thing for just 1 item to go bad with a shoe but 2 things wrong? and at the same time? Very disappointed. I sent it back and payed a little for for a KEEN boot.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 17) HI-TEC Women’s V-lite Wild-fire Mid I Waterproof Hiking Boot

Women's V-lite Wild-fire Mid I Waterproof Hiking Boot

Product Summary: This hiking boot is perfect for those who love to be outdoors. It is waterproof and has a comfortable fit.

A 5-Star Review: For my wife, HI-TEC hiking boots do well to support ankles. They’re comfortable and fit well with the foot size (9). She’s not a heavy duty hiker; however, she appreciates the sturdiness they provide.
If you’re looking for quality, a slightly lower price, and a stabilizing boot, these may serve you well. She’s a HUGE Keen brand fan and this particular boot from HI-TEC is not too far behind in overall performance.
Four stars demonstrate the overall quality and performance; however, thick socks compensate for the ‘sloppy’ fit. Other sizes were tried to get the best fit but size 9 came in the fit best.

A Critical Review: The boots are small. I wear size 7 shoes, my toes were squeezed, I thought it was because you have to wear them a few times before they adapt to your feet, but I’ve wore them a few times now and my toes hurt every time. I’ve hiked near creeks and the boots did let water in. So even though you won’t end up with a broken ankle you will end up with soaked socks and painful toes. In regards to them being lightweight, they are not; they’re on the heavy side of the spectrum (not a big deal for me though) and I’ll they do feel sturdy.

It features a waterproof and breathable upper to keep your feet dry, and a cushioned EVA midsole for comfort. The Vibram outsole provides excellent traction on all types of terrain.

A 5-Star Review: Buena calidad de Botas se ven finas, resistentes y buen terminado la talla me parecio un poco grande
Lo unico malo es lo calido los materiales internos que hace sudar facilmente.

A Critical Review: Ok so here is the story. Bought these for 3 reasons. They are light weight, not crazy expensive, and waterproof. I wore them for a couple 2-3 mile hikes to break them in. They are comfortable, light weight, and fit well (actually, im a standard men’s size 8 99% of the time. these fit a little tight with thick wool hiking socks and i was worried at first, but after 10-15 miles they were perfect).

I do lots of 10-20 mile hikes and backpacking trips in So Cal (so desert to Alpine conditions). The first big hike was Mt San Jacinto in 3-6 feet snow. Its 11 miles round trip, sometimes just shoes, sometimes micro spikes, sometimes snow shoes, always Outdoor Research Gaiters. By the time i reached the top, feet were wet. I thought maybe it was sweating, i asked my companions who all had Goretex boots and they said bone dry. I figured it was a fluke, changed socks and went back down. They had passed the 10 second kitchen sink test so figured it would be fine. Next big hike was San Gorgornio, below freezing, sleet, hail, snow. Micro Spikes mostly (Crampons for a short stretch).. Same result. Wet feet. Not cool. I dont know if there is supposed to be some spray on treatment or what. Im not one of those folks that thinks your feet never get wet. They always get wet with sweat no matter what you wear if your pushing hard But this was for sure outside wet not inside wet. Seems to be the suede that is the problem more than the dryteck or whatever.. Also the tongue doesn’t connect to the shoe all the way up (!) just most of the way. Design flaw. That wasnt my issue though, i had quality snow gaiters covering the lace area most of the way to the heel. This last hike in just 1-3 inches of snow (another San Jacinto hike) wet after a couple miles. Not happy. Other than that, a fine boot for the price. But waterproof it aint.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 19) Hi-Tec Men’s New 2018 Skamania Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot

Men's New 2018 Skamania Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot

The boot also has a contoured EVA insole for cushioned comfort, and a Multi-Directional Traction (MDT) outsole for superior grip and traction on any terrain.

A 5-Star Review: The heal was too big. Needed a narrower heal width. 6

A Critical Review: I have bought this boot twice. Nothing waterproof about them, and they last about six months before coming apart.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 20) Hi-Tec Men’s Bandera Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot

Men's Bandera Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot

A 5-Star Review: Purchased for my son ! Comfortable

A Critical Review: Powerstep Premium Original Full Length Orthotic Shoe Insoles, Semi-Rigid Arch Support, High Quality Ultra-Thin Design and Heel Cradle For Increased SupportThe Bandera runs “in between” a half-size small.
I wear Hi-Tec “Lite” mids (slash cut ankle) V-Lite anything, Sierra-Lite, Nevis V-Lite, Nevis II V-Lite. I’m V-Lite all the way, when I can find them. I’m a size 9 in all Hi-Tech boots and they all have quiet soles and great arch support, and thick shoelaces.
You get what you pay for. These Bandera mids have very little arch support and are not an all-day wearing boot as much as a V-Lite. They are boutique hiking mids. The shoe laces are skinny, and border on “cutting through” at the ankle, though the collars ar padded more than a V-Lite’s. The top metal eyelets bend with any stress. And the cheaper Hi-Tec always run 1/2 size small. I’ve requested an exchange to size 9-1/2, but I wish I’d found a better Hi-Tec V-Lite Mid.
Removing the Hi-Tec insoles, and replacing them with arch support insoles help.
Update: 10/31/15. When I initiated my return and contacted the seller, they offered to send a size 9-1/2 in advance, and included a shipping label, and using the same box to return the size 9 boots. The replacement pair of 9-1/2 seem a bit too large. It seems like these run a 1/4 size smaller, were that possible. So here it is:
Buy your regular size, but know that there may not be any extra toe room at all. Once you’ve worn-in the interior of the shoe cubically, with thick socks, things will give and you’ll have just enough room front to back. It seems like they were manufactured using a metric measured “last” (shoe form), instead of an inches “last” (shoe form). You can tell a high quality Hi-Tec Mid (V-Lite) by the hi-impact, black plastic lace loops, and not metal ones. Metal lace hooks indicate a hard carbon and noisy sole, with poor arch support. Anyway, I bought two pair of these Banderas.

Update 11-10-15 • I ordered another pair of my standard size 9 because I found Chippawa 54″ round, waxed laces that allow for a double knot. You can google this “Chippewa Wax Laces Brown 54 Inch” and find out where to buy them online. The skinny laces that ship with the Bandera’s have a thin woven cover that soon breaks (see photo), because of the friction crested by the metal lace loops. Not to worry, adding Chippewa laces will cure that problem. Next, you’ll need quality insole inserts with arch support like “Powerstep ProTech full length insoles”, so google those too, remove the Hi-Tec insole and you’ve got a decent pair of work boots than you can wear all day long.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
12-12-15 – These Bandera’s are killing my heels at the end of the day, even with the PowerStep insoles. It’s because of the hard carbon soles and rigid sole layers. I can only wear them for a few hours or after a few days of wearing a pair of 2002 vintage Hi-Tec Sierra V-Lites.
Inside the lid of every Hi-Tec shoe box is a message from chairman Frank Van Wezel (fvw@hi-tecsports.com) asking for customer comments on how Hi-Tec® can provide “comfortable, innovative and stylish mid-hiking boots”.
I’m not sending this extra pair of Bandera’s back to the seller, but beware of the hammering your feet are going to endure. They’re a bummer boot. I’m asking Frank to remake the Sierra V-Lite, and to expand their V-Lite selection of mids as an urban hiking boot. Not waterproof, if it makes them heavier. We’ll see if Frank takes it to heart.

A 5-Star Review: Perfect, exactly what I wanted. Good quality, great fit and grat price

A Critical Review: *Update* (8/25/2022): I have submitted an online form on HI-TEC’s site 3 times over 3 months and I have received no response. Customer support is not there for us. The other pair of boots I purchased (Altitude Plus), months before, failed in just under a year: the leather is separating from the sole on the right boot. Both pairs are hiking boots that I have never worn hiking. I no longer recommend boots from HI-TEC.

(Original review): This is the 4th pair of HI-TECs I have owned. My 1st pair (full leather upper) was retired after I finally wore the sole down to practically nothing after some 15+ years of use. This pair was delivered last month and only worn six times, at the nursing facility where I work, treading linoleum and carpet for 8 -11 hours per shift tending to patients. Taking the boots off when I got home, I noticed the leather on the left boot had blown-out. Definitely not my usual HI-TEC experience. I have notified HI-TEC via a form on their website, and asked them about their warranty. I will update this review when I hear from them.

Hi Tec Hiking Boots # 26) Hi-Tec Men’s Falcon Waterproof Hiking Boot

Men's Falcon Waterproof Hiking Boot

Product Summary: The Hi-Tec Men’s Falcon Waterproof Hiking Boot is perfect for any outdoor adventure. The boot features a waterproof and breathable upper to keep your feet dry, while the EVA midsole provides cushioning and support. The rubber outsole offers traction and durability, and the boot also has a gusseted tongue to keep debris out.

A 5-Star Review: The good: nice fit and comfortable to wear. I have wide feet and these boots have enough room in the toe box.

The bad: I purchased these June 2013 (it is now May 2014): the left boot is separated from its sole on the inside of the heel leaving a gap. On each boot, one of larger heel lugs has broken near the center so there is a hole leading to the insole. The tongue of the boot is somewhat narrow and is hard to get laced up on the inside of the boot as expected and the gore which should aid in water-proofness ends about half way up the tongue.

The ugly: just got back from a hike in Port Charlotte on the island of Islay in Scotland. It was drizzling – not a hard rain. My boots look like I walked all day in 3 inches of water! Water just soaked in the toes and I can wring out my socks. This is not water coming in from the holes in the heels or from the separated uppers at the heel, but has soaked through the top of the boot.

Conclusion: what a big disappointment! Previously my wife had a pair of Hi-Tec’s that she loved (purchased in 1999 and turned over in 2013) but it appears that the quality is gone. Surprisingly Hi-Tec wanted immediate feed-back on the boots just after purchase. Perhaps that is how they get good reviews – people have not experienced them yet! I really wish they were better quality and water-proof! Back to shopping for wide boots – just not Hi-Tec!

Addendum: June 2014 – I looked at the manufacturer’s web page and found that these boots have a 1 year Manufacturer’s Guarantee! I contacted Hi-Tec customer service and they directed to Amazon – but Amazon has only a 30-day return on this item. Hi-Tec had me send in my defective boots and today I received a brand-new pair of water-proof boots from them! They are ‘Bandera’ instead of ‘Falcon’ but look to be well made. I’ll see how they wear! Got to say that Hi-Tec STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS! Kudo’s to them for helping me out. I am raising my rating from the original 2-star to 4-star due to the exceptional customer service!

A Critical Review: Pros: I guess they’re waterproof, I didn’t get a chance to try them. Outsole looks reasonably sturdy. Seem well made for the price (but, again, didn’t try them long enough)

Cons: Insole was painful, way too narrow for a wide-width shoe. Waterproofing will make your feet sweat. Well made for the price – but quality hiking shoes cost much more.

The proposition of buying shoes online, especially specialized shoes for oddly-shaped feet like my own, is always a dicey one. I was looking for a hiking shoe at a reasonable price – I wasn’t planning on hiking the Appalachian Trail anytime soon and just needed something that wouldn’t fall apart if I decided to put a few dozen miles a year on them. I was attracted these shoes as a mid-height (need ankle support), waterproof option. I wore them on one 2-mile hike and immediately tried to sell them. Firstly, they were too narrow in toe-area – I know I have wide feet, but not THAT wide, as I have other shoes even in regular size that fit well. If you normally wear wides, look for other shoes. And the insole was brutal. It was thin, arched on the OUTSIDE not in the arch-area, and painful in the ball of the foot. I swapped in a pair of insoles from another pair of shoes and that helped. As I hiked and suffered with cramped toes, I noticed that my feet started to sweat alot. I do have sweaty feet, but they don’t breathe at all, even though it says that they are. I sold them to a neighbor who had smaller, less sweaty feet and he loved them. Go figure.

Bottom line, if you’re looking for cheap hiking shoes, find a store where you can try them on or spend a little more for Merrells, Keen, Columbia, or even a higher-end Hi-Tec.
