Barot also forms the gateway to the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary which lies across the Uhl river. The sanctuary is home to the monal, black bear and ghoral. Within it are forest rest house s at Thaltuckhod and Sil Bandhwari. Through woods of cedar and pine a trek route cuts across the sanctuary to Kullu.

The river originates at the Thamsar Glacier in the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, flows through the Uhl valley crossing Bada Gran and Barot, both villages in the Uhl valley. In the lower part of its course, it is also known as Tiun Nala and the Uhl valley is known as Chauhar valley. You should spent some peaceful time sitting along the river with friends or family.

Novices, if they wish to have a shot at trouts, should come accompanied with somebody who has know how of the pursuit. Also, please do get your own gear as there is only one local shop that sells some very-very basic fishing gear.
