When it comes to outdoor apparel, Columbia is one of the most trusted brands. Their products are designed for comfort and performance, and their hiking pants are no exception. Made from durable materials with a comfortable fit, Columbia hiking pants are a great choice for any hike or outdoor adventure. And with a variety of styles to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect pair of pants for your needs. So whether you’re looking for a basic pair of hiking pants or something more specialized, Columbia has you covered.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 1) Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pants

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Men's Silver Ridge Convertible Pants by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: The perfect pants for any adventure, the Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pants are versatile and comfortable. Made with a lightweight, quick-dry fabric, these pants can be easily converted into shorts when the temperature starts to rise. They also feature multiple pockets for storing all your essential items, as well as an adjustable waist for a custom fit. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or just enjoying a day outside, the Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pants will keep you comfortable all day long.

A 5-Star Review: This is the most comfortable zip ups that I’ve found yet.

I would much preferer there to be flaps on both the thigh pockets (not a zipper on one and flap on the other).

The zip off point is a bit high on the leg. It’s almost two inches above the knee when standing straight. The length with the legs in place is perfect.

A Critical Review: These pants/shorts would be pretty perfect if not for three out of the four mesh pockets tearing. These are my camping pants, so although I suppose camping is a little harsher wear on them, I don’t abuse them. Also, because they’re camping pants, I don’t wear them all the time, so I was surprised to find that it’s been over a year since buying them.

Both back mesh pockets have the stitching coming undone. The right one that I normally keep my wallet in had the stitching come undone in it the last time I wore them. Luckily I noticed when my wallet fell right through my pantleg to the floor. So, I switched my wallet to the left side, and after just a couple of hours the stitching on that pocket came undone, too. That was the first time I’d ever used the left back pocket.

The right front pocket got a legit hole in it (not just stitching coming undone, but the mesh tearing) the first or second time I wore them. It wasn’t quite big enough for anything I keep in it to have ever fallen out, but if I kept smaller items in it then they would definitely be in danger of falling out.

I’m kind of amazed at the low quality of the pockets, considering the brand and how great the pants/shorts are otherwise.

I love being able to remove the lower legs of the pants for hot days, and put them on for cold days or night around the fire. They’re so lightweight that I thought they’d easily get holes in them, but other than the pockets they are holding up well.

Since the return window is past, we’ll have to try to sew them, but I don’t know how well that will work with it being mesh.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 2) Columbia Men’s Rapid Rivers Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Men's Rapid Rivers Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: If you spend your days outdoors, you need a pair of pants that can keep up. The Columbia Men’s Rapid Rivers Pants are perfect for any outdoor activity, from hiking to fishing. They’re made with a comfortable stretch fabric that allows you to move freely, and they’re treated with a water-repellent finish to keep you dry in any weather. Plus, they have plenty of pockets to keep your essentials close at hand. Whether you’re tackling a tough trail or enjoying a peaceful day on the river, the Rapid Rivers Pants will help you make the most of your time outdoors.

A 5-Star Review: Phenomenal pants. Light weight but still hold up through thick woods and thorny brush. They will rip, but I was snagged on barbed wire bad when they did. I am am archaeologist and we survey through some seriously crappy woods and just horrible general conditions a lot of the time. They held up for two full seasons before needing retired.

A Critical Review: These are basically girls pants. Or for dudes with no package. I’ve never been so constrained up front — ridiculously uncomfortable as men’s pants. But perfect if you’re going for the 70’s butt rocker look and want your junk to show. All that to say, the crotch is way too high.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 3) Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Cargo Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Men's Silver Ridge Cargo Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: The Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Cargo Pant is a versatile, comfortable pair of pants that can be worn for a variety of activities. They are made from a quick-drying, sun-protection fabric that is perfect for spending time outdoors. The pants have multiple pockets for carrying your essentials, and the cargo pockets are especially handy for storing items like your phone or a map. The waistband is adjustable for a custom fit, and the legs can be rolled up or down to suit your needs. Whether you’re hiking, camping, or just enjoying a day in the park, the Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Cargo Pant will keep you comfortable and protected from the elements.

A 5-Star Review: I had been looking for a couple of reasonably priced, light weight hiking pants for quite a while. I wanted something with a similar look, feel and function to the high-end edc pants I have but without the triple digit price tag.

After reading the reviews for these pants I was really leery about ordering them even though they seemed to be exactly what I was looking for… but I figured what the heck, returning things through Amazon is easy so I ordered a pair.

In a lot of the reviews people recommend ordering at least a size larger than your actual waist size so I took that advice and ordered the correct length but two sizes larger than I normally wear. The pants came and they were just a little large in the waist, so if you like your pants to fit perfect I would recommend ordering only one waist size larger than you actually wear.
I ordered a length of 32 and the length is more like a 34 but that works out fine for me because I tuck them into my boots when hiking anyway.

These are really nice pants. I’m surprised and a even a little disappointed by some of the reviews I read because they almost convinced me not to purchase them. They are light weight, breath easy and well made and they look nice too. I ordered another pair which arrived yesterday and the fitting was the same as the first pair.

I love these pants and couldn’t be happier with both purchases. There are two reasons I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5. The first reason is because the sizing is off, a 38 inch waist should be 38 inches, you shouldn’t have to spend 45 minutes reading reviews to know you have to order a size larger than you actually wear. The second reason is the listing. The colors are odd names such as “Tusk”, “Fossil”, “Gravel”, “Grill”, etc. I had a pretty good idea what those colors were until I viewed the listings. There are three pictures for the Fossil listing and each picture shows a different colored pair of pants… and its the same with a couple of the other ones. Personally I didn’t care what color pants I received (as long as they weren’t hot pink or neon green) but the pictures in a listing should be accurate and a customer should know what color they are ordering. So only 4 stars for these pants.

A Critical Review: The front pockets are too small to carry a normal amount of man stuff without risk of things falling out. The cut is tight around the butt and junk, tighter yet with the normal stuff in your pockets. The rest of the pants are normal roomy cut for cargo pants.

Dear Columbia,

If I can’t fit a pair of pliers or a snub nose revolver in my front pockets without them sticking out, the pockets are too small. If I can’t fit a cell phone and a wallet in my pockets without showing the world the detail of my business, the pockets are too small.

And really it is a danger to the public. If I go out in pants that tight it distracts the womenfolk so they crash their shopping carts. I can only imagine if I walked down the sidewalk. Give us comfortable pants with big pockets for the sake of public safety if nothing else!

Columbia Hiking Pants # 4) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Stretch Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Saturday Trail Stretch Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: If you’re looking for a versatile pant that can take you from the trail to the town, look no further than the Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Stretch Pant. These pants are made from a stretchy, comfortable fabric and feature a straight leg design that looks great on everyone. Whether you’re hitting the trails or running errands, the Saturday Trail Stretch Pant will keep you comfortable all day long.

A 5-Star Review: I am so in love with the Columbia Saturday Trail line of pants! I previously purchased the convertible and insulated versions and LOVED them.

Although I just received these pants today and have not had a chance to test them out beyond trying them on and wearing them around the house for a while, they are made of the same material and are stitched the same way as the convertible pants, and I would say I’m a qualified expert on how this fabric performs! I go on long walks/hikes at least 4 days a week, and go on weekend camping trips several times s year and I literally wore the convertible pants on every walk/hike and camping trip I took from May through mid November (including a 27 mile hike 1-day hike in October!)

I wore them in every conceivable spring-fall weather condition (except snow), in temperatures from the low 40s to low 100s, and was ALWAYS comfortable in those pants! They keep out chilly wind, yet are breathable. You can walk through a section of shady trail out into the blazing sun and feel equally comfortable.

The Saturday Trail pants are extremely durable. They protect your legs from the sun, dirt, mud, bugs and brush but are light as a feather. I wore them among sandburs, thorny rose bushes, scrub, rocks, and barbed wire and didn’t get so much as a snag in them! I crawled around in the woods and kneel a lot on paved sidewalks while taking care of my dog, and have no wear on the knees of these pants.

They seriously feel weightless, on your body as well as in your luggage/backpack, and can easily be packed down into a teeny tiny space. These are the best pants I can imagine for travel!

No matter what you put them through, these pants look great! They are wrinkle resistant, dirt brushes right off, and stains easily rinse out-even with a just a fast food napkin and a melted ice cube…yeah…that happened…more than once. I was able to wear them for more times in a row than I will publicly admit, and whenever I finally did decide to wash them, it was just because I felt obligated to for the sake of decency, not because the pants actually looked, felt, or smelled dirty.

And they dry quickly! You can wash them in the sink with a teeny bit of whatever soap is available, wring them out by hand and hang them to dry overnight and you will have dry pants in the morning. You can have an entire 32 oz water bottle spill on your car seat while you are driving on the interstate and, after sitting in the puddle for 15 minutes until you’ve basically absorbed all 32 oz, get out of your car and walk in the sun for 20 minutes and have a dry bottom again… yeah…that happened too. You can get caught in a light rain for short periods of time and stay completely dry! (Note: These are water resistant, not water proof. the fabric repels water, but if exposed to high volumes quickly or light amounts over a long period of time, they will eventually become saturated.)

They have just enough stretch and are smartly designed so that you have complete range of motion and comfort. I ran, walked, biked, climbed, sat on chairs and on the ground, squatted, jumped, crawled, knelt, did Pilates, rode in the car, and laid on the couch like a bum in these and was always comfortable and never restricted.

And besides all this? These are probably the most flattering pants I’ve ever owned- that goes for ALL pants- including jeans and dress pants. The fabric drapes nicely and doesn’t cling- no wedgies or pantylines! The cut is very flattering- it’s difficult for me to find a flattering cut. The design isn’t overtly “athletic”- you can wear them off the trail and not look like you are wearing “sportswear.” The fabric isn’t shiny or “plasticy” and there’s not a lot of sporty stitching or zippers. These pants can convert into capris, and do have little straps to hold the rolled pantlegs up, but if you are not using this feature, you’d never know it’s there. The straps are on the inside of the pant leg, and the button that connects the straps to the outside of the pants is ingeniously hidden under a little hidden flap. The pockets also are discrete. In fact, if it weren’t for the small Columbia logo printed on the back near the waist, The Saturday Trail pants would fit my office’s business casual dress code.

I am 5’6, 125-130 lbs with an hour glass figure and average- bordering on short legs and wear a size 8 average in jeans. I like my pants to be slim fitting but not tight, and a tiny bit long, so I sized up to a size 10 regular. I love the way they fit! They are a teeny bit loose at the waist and I usually wear a belt, but I can wear them without a belt without them sagging too low. They fit slim (but not tight) around my thighs and loose (but not super baggy) at the knees and calves. When wearing shoes, the hems cover the opening of the shoe, and allow you to sit without the “calf gap), but the hems do not brush the ground. If you want them to fit as described by the product description, order true to size.

I ordered the India Ink color- I judging from the name of the color and the picture, I expected a sort of muted down navy blue, but instead it’s a slate grey color with a blue tinge. I love the color and it matches EVERYTHING! The only drawback to the color is that it does show light colored dirt. My pants arrived out of the package with some white “warehouse dust” on them, and it was very obvious. (It did brush off easily, though! My other 2 pairs are in the Grill color, which is light grey with a greenish brown tinge, and they don’t show the dirt nearly as badly.

A Critical Review: I wear a lot of hiking pants, and I have been satisfied in the past with Columbia. I had to order a size larger than usual of these pants, which is just something to be aware of. I like a high rise. The top of these pants does not come up to my navel, despite their being described as a “classic fit.” Also, they fit me awkwardly in the hips. Partly because of the low rise, the pants seem to twist and are not as comfortable as they should be. I don’t have this issue with other hiking pants. The product description says the pants have a button closure. It’s a snap closure, and the snaps are so tight that it is difficult to get them closed (or to pull them open), which could be very awkward in an urgent trail situation, if you catch my drift. The side pockets do not have a hook and loop closure as the product description says. They have no closing mechanism. The back pockets do have Velcro closures, which the product description does not mention. Overall, these pants are a disappointment.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 5) Columbia Women’s Anytime Outdoor Boot Cut Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Anytime Outdoor Boot Cut Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: No matter where your day takes you, be prepared for anything in these versatile Anytime Outdoor Boot Cut Pants from Columbia. These pants are comfortable and flattering with a boot cut silhouette, and are perfect for a day spent hiking or running errands. The built-in UPF 50 sun protection and Omni-Shield advanced repellency will keep you protected from the elements, while the drawcord waist provides a custom fit.

A 5-Star Review: Discovered these pants in a sporting goods store and purchased a pair to take on a cruise overseas. These were so perfect that I’ve bought two more pair. For traveling, very lightweight and they roll and pack into a small space. Being nylon, I easily washed them in bathroom sink and they dried quickly for another walking tour the next day. I typically don’t find that lightweight nylon fabrics hold a smooth finish after a few wearings and washings (often they begin to pucker at the seams), I’m not finding this to be the case with these. They may appear a bit lumpy on the hanger, but after putting them on, the lumps disappear and they look smooth and nice. I would not feel uncomfortable wearing these, with a nice top, to dinner. I am 5’7″ and 150, wear size 10, and the boot cut looks great. In other nylon pants, after machine drying sometimes the nylon will draw up and they become too short for me, but these have retained their length!

Okay, it sounds like I really love these, so why only 4 stars? They have a zipper, a snap and a string tie at the waist. Sometimes to get the waist snug enough (they tend to get looser throughout the day), I find I’ve tied the drawstring so tight that the pants pucker underneath. For this reason, usually wear these pants with a shirt untucked. These are cool, comfortable, easy wash and wear… A win, win, win!

A Critical Review: I was looking for a pair of utility pants for camping/hiking and was hoping to avoid the pricey ‘outdoor brands’. These pants got good reviews and the price couldn’t be beat. They are definitely soft and comfortable. I’m 5’-2” and 130 lb and the 4 fit nicely- a little more flared at the bottom than I typically like, but the boot cut would definitely be ok with chunky hiking boots. I was ready to call the search over until I noticed how much static cling was happening after only wearing them for 1 minute! The pants picked up every single piece of lint, dust, dog hair within a 5 foot radius. Since I plan on wearing these in mostly dusty, dirty, rocky places, I would be annoyed if these picked up every little piece of dust and looked dirty constantly. There’s a chance I tried them on on a dryer than average day, but I’d rather not take the chance. Unfortunately ended up returning them.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 6) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Saturday Trail Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: The Saturday Trail Pant from Columbia is a versatile and comfortable option for any day out. Made from a durable stretch fabric, these pants move with you and hold up to any adventure. The UPF 50 sun protection and moisture-wicking properties keep you cool and dry, while the pockets and drawcord waist provide all the function you need. Whether you’re hitting the trails or running errands, the Saturday Trail Pant is a great choice.

A 5-Star Review: I have a small budget to work with but am the kind of person that is willing to make an investment when I need to. I’m a teacher during the school year and a glacier guide in the summer. I needed something that met the requirements of both environments. I bought these in three colors and have been satisfied with them in every way.

They’re a comfortable yet professional fit. They’re wind proof, which is a must when working outdoors in an elevated area. They’re water-resistant and quick-drying, a huge benefit when constantly interacting with melting ice and occasionally giving tours in the rain. They have a pocket on the thigh that’s just the right size for a iPhone mini and it’s zippered so that I wouldn’t have to worry about my phone slipping out and dropping into a crevasse (it happens a lot out there). Also, the light gray ones are the exact shade of dried glacial silt from the Matanuska, meaning I looked clean even after a whole day of work (not exactly the most widely applicable part of the review, but hey, if you happen to be getting a job there, it’s good to know.)

Lastly, if you put them in a classroom context and don’t look too closely at the zippered thigh pocket, they’re passable as slacks. They’re comfortable and go nicely with a cute pair of boots. And if it ever rains during recess, I’ll be ready.

A Critical Review: I really like these pants. They are comfortable and are long enough. I ordered one pair in a size 10; nope they were way to small. My daughter who wears a size 4 couldn’t get them in either. I returned those and read more reviews. I sized up to a size 16. They arrived today and they are perfect! A tad big in the waist but super comfortable.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 7) Columbia Men’s Rebel Roamer Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Men's Rebel Roamer Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: Waterproof, breathable, and seam-sealed Omni-Tech keeps outside elements from getting in, while still allowing moisture vapors to move away from the skin. Nylon taffeta lining. Wide, adjustable waistband. Quick-adjustable cuff tabs allow you to adjust the fit over shoes or boots. 100% nylon Omni-Tech. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Imported.

A 5-Star Review: These appear to be very high-quality lined rain pants. They fit really baggy (which I prefer), esp. in the lower leg. I think these are designed to be worn as overpants. The massively wide leg opening can only be tightened by a velcro strap. There is no elastic involved. This seem sub-optimal for most applications.

The other thing is that there are zero pockets. I would fully expect a rear zippered pocket, and would hope for front zippered pockets. But nada. Makes them tough to wear in any kind of outdoor activity.

I hope Columbia adds ankle elastic and some pockets next year!

A Critical Review: I liked the quality of these pants but not the fit. They are much too baggy for my taste. So, I returned them.

A 5-Star Review: very nice pants, but too short, should be an option for different lengths

A 5-Star Review: Nice looking and very comfortable with their light weight, great for wear in hot Florida weather and they do clean up nicely from being out fishing, guess thats why their called Blood and Guts cause that comes off with a wash.

A Critical Review: These pants are okay but note that they are somewhat baggy and super thin…also, the pockets are made of mesh…I’m going to keep mine and use them as rain pants but I think a nylon/polyester blend would have been a better choice for hiking pants…they are a tad overpriced.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 10) Columbia Women’s Pleasant Creek Jogger

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Pleasant Creek Jogger by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: The Columbia Women’s Pleasant Creek Jogger is a versatile and comfortable jogger that can be worn for a variety of activities. Made with a soft and breathable fabric, this jogger is perfect for a morning run or a casual walk in the park. The jogger also features a drawstring waist for a custom fit, as well as two hand pockets for storing your essentials.

A 5-Star Review: I ordered these for my wife and she wears them for work. She loves them so much that she barely wears anything else. Another pair may be needed soon!

A Critical Review: I liked everything about these pants except they were too short for me in the crotch. Very unflattering. Not sure if it was just the pair I ordered or what. I’m 5’4″, 135 pounds and generally wear a medium. I have an old pair of Columbia joggers that fit perfectly, size medium. A large would have been to big in the waist. Returned.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 11) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: Whether you’re out for a hike or running errands, these versatile pants will keep you comfortable all day long. The lightweight, stretchy fabric is perfect for warm weather, and the UPF 50 sun protection will keep you safe from harmful rays. The convertible design means you can wear them as pants or shorts, and the zippered pockets are great for storing your essentials.

A 5-Star Review: Love the pants and wore them ONE time and the zipper failed on the left leg. Must have been damaged when I took it out of the package because I never unzipped the pants into shorts. Sadly, because I was away for a month, I am now outside of the return window and looking for a solution to get this product replaced ASAP.

A Critical Review: I have have this style of hiking pant from Columbia before. Same problem arises. If you have thighs (especially if they touch) these pants are NOT for you. Columbia designed a comfy and stretchy convertible pant that has zero stretch or give right around the zipper above the knee. You can go up a size and you will have a little more comfort around the waist but the leg hole does not increase in size. I think the leg opening at the zipper section above the knee is 17” in circumference. So if you have skinny legs then you’re lucky because this pant is for you. I will be returning these since they are extremely uncomfortable for anyone with muscle or weight in their thighs.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 12) Columbia Women’s Longer Days Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Longer Days Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: The Columbia Women’s Longer Days Pant is a versatile and comfortable option for a day on the trail. Made with a durable and comfortable Omni-Shield fabric, these pants offer UPF 50 sun protection and are water repellent, making them ideal for any adventure. The stretch fabric and gusseted crotch allow for full range of motion, and the zippered pockets provide secure storage for your essentials. Whether you’re hiking, camping, or just enjoying a day outdoors, the Columbia Women’s Longer Days Pant will keep you comfortable all day long.

A 5-Star Review: Very nice fabric, lightweight but durable. The fit is quite snug, with little give or stretch, even though there is a partial elastic waist. They are super high-waisted, and if you don’t pull them all the way up (like way past the belly button) then the crotch sags making it very difficult to do any kind of stretching or even sitting. I bought these because I thought they would be a bit stretchy, and was excited for a partial elastic waistband…sadly, disappointing and uncomfortable.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 13) Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Cargo Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Men's Silver Ridge Cargo Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: The Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Cargo Pant is a great choice for your next hike. It features a comfortable fit with an elastic waistband and a drawstring closure. The cargo pockets provide plenty of storage for your essentials, and the UPF 50 sun protection keeps you safe from the harmful rays of the sun. The Silver Ridge Cargo Pant is a great choice for your next outdoor adventure.

A 5-Star Review: Dries quickly, rolls up into a small space, comfortable, looks good as casual wear. Highly recommended!

A Critical Review: NOT for me, does not work buying on line! Not my style and does not fit….

Columbia Hiking Pants # 14) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: These durable, sun-and-water-repelling pants are built to keep you comfortable and protected in a wide variety of conditions and activities.

A 5-Star Review: I really like the style of pant, great quality material and does seem to be water resistant. I suggest if you have big thighs, lift weights, or are on the curvy size you buy a size up. The pants were just a little snug around my quads and butt despite the measurements listed on the sizing chart.

A Critical Review: Good fabric. Looks great. However, the zip around the leg makes the thigh too tight for me to feel comfy. It may even hinder my movements when hiking on really rugged trails. The size fits as expected. It fits me alright except that while it is straight leg styled, the buttocks is rather tight fitted, which shows the outline of my undergarment. I consider exchanging it for a bigger size but this might not solve both problems.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 15) Columbia Men’s Rugged Ridge Outdoor Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Men's Rugged Ridge Outdoor Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: If you’re looking for a tough, comfortable pant to take on the great outdoors, look no further than the Columbia Men’s Rugged Ridge Outdoor Pant. Made with a durable cotton blend fabric, these pants are built to last. And with a relaxed fit and adjustable waist, they’ll keep you comfortable all day long. Whether you’re hiking, camping, or just taking a walk in the park, the Rugged Ridge Outdoor Pant is the perfect choice for your next adventure.

A 5-Star Review: could be the most comfortable pair of pants i’ve ever worn

A Critical Review: First of all, I’m a little peeved that I specifically ordered a Big & Tall fit, and was sent Regular. But that’s on Amazon, not Columbia. Fortunately, the relaxed fit is generous enough that the boys aren’t compressed, despite the shorter rise.

Love: I really like the color “collegiate navy”… it’s a deep, dark denim blue hinting at teal. The product photos show it being more indigo than it actually is. They seem well constructed and have a good drape, and feel nice to wear. They’re a comfortable, straight leg relaxed to relaxed-plus fit. Good flex and range of movement. Back to the product photos, there is NO WAY those are the same pants, with the tailored fit that defines his thighs and calves.

Hate: Waist measures an inch bigger than the tag size, and will stretch another 3 or 4 inches. Fits fine with a belt, but won’t stay up without one. There’s that stupid divided belt loop that serves no purpose (mine will fit up to a 1.5” belt). The zippered right thigh “pocket” is big enough for a single granola bar or a few magic markers. Hammer loop on the left hip, why? The fabric is thinner than denim but stiff and course, feels like sailcloth.

Overall, a decent pair of street pants, but too baggy for hiking around and rocks and vegetation. Cost less than sixteen bucks, but there’s still a 50% chance that I’ll return them.

UPDATE: wore them for about an hour doing mild activity… driving, walking. The pants were getting pretty hot, and I had to hitch them up constantly. Remeasured when I got home, and the elastic waist had loosened another inch! They went back to Amazon.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 16) Columbia Women’s Aruba Roll Up Pant

Columbia Hiking Pants: Columbia Women's Aruba Roll Up Pant by Store Columbia Store

Product Summary: If you’re looking for a versatile, casual pant that can be dressed up or down, the Columbia Women’s Aruba Roll Up Pant is a great choice. Made from a lightweight, stretchy fabric, these pants are comfortable to wear all day long. They have a relaxed fit through the hips and thighs, and roll up at the ankle for a fun, flirty look. The Aruba pant is available in a variety of colors, so you can find the perfect match for your style.

A 5-Star Review: I purchased the Just Right capri, the Aruba capri and the Saturday Trail knee pant and regular long pant in identical sizes. There is quite a bit of difference in fit. The Just Right capri is much looser in the waist and leg compared to the Saturday Trail versions.. They are not baggy, just not as close to the skin. Definitely a more relaxed feel. They are also a few inches longer. The Saturday Trail comes midway across my knee cap, the Just Right capri come a good 2-4 inches below my knee.
The Saturday Trail is a bit tight at the waist and as there is no give in the waistband or the ability to custom size by having snaps in several locations along the waist band, I had better not gain any weight! They have a more athletic look to them. This capri could NOT be “dressed up” as it really looks athletic. The Saturday Trail knee pant has an adjustable stretchy elastic through the bottom which you can slide to make it completely closed against the leg or leave open/relaxed where you then have in my case at least a couple inches or so loose. As that piece (which I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it right now) is outside the hem, it is visible when worn and gives a very casual sporty look to the Saturday trail capri.
Consistency in sizing is important to me and I will pay a bit more to know what I order will fit the same as what I have ordered in the past (provided I have not changed in size of course.) Some manufacturer’s are all over the place and I can wear 4 different sizes making it impossible to know what size to order. Here the “fit” difference is more a question of an athletic cut vs. a casual but more versatile cut.
The Aruba pant that could be rolled up to a capri length was said to run small so order one size larger was recommended. I did that and it doesn’t work for my body type. It did fit around the waist but was so baggy around the butt and particularly around my legs that it looked terrible. Only if overall the cut is a size too small or size to big can going up/down work for you. When it is just the waist which is small and the remainder is cut a size too big it makes for a terrible fit.
If you are built with larger hips and legs and a small waist I recommend the Aruba otherwise the fit just won’t work for you. With all of the choices it is a matter of knowing how the garment is cut and knowing your body type. I am slimmer in the rear and legs and definitely there is no little waist on my type. If you are built like me, pass this one on by and try the Just Right Capri or the Saturday Trail.
The other issue with the Aruba is it had only an exterior button to hold the cuff in place so the inside of the leg kept coming unrolled (especially since it was already too large in the leg). Because the fabric is silky and a bit slippery holding the cuff in place on a pair of pants you have rolled up is critical. Unless you plan to add something to hold them up when cuffed to the inseam, plan on the cuff constantly coming part way unrolled just because of the nature of the cloth (slippery vs. nubby).. So if you are looking for pants that turn into capris I would recommend the Saturday Trail Pant. Yes it runs slimmer just as the knee pants do, but when rolled up it fits closer to your leg and has buttons on both the inseam and outside seam to hold the cuff in place.

A Critical Review: As many other reviews said, these Columbia Women’s Full Leg Roll Up Aruba pants run small!

The Arubas are definitely very snug/tight in the upper part (waist and butt), when compared to my Columbia Women’s Cascades Explorer pants Columbia Women’s Cascades Explorer Pant, Black, 16/Regular which also runs small, but not as small as the Arubas!

I sized up one size, to size 16 for the Cascades and thought it would be the same for the Arubas. However the Arubas are much tigher in the waist, and longer- at least 1.5″ longer (see photos) in length. I’m a medium/large build, about 5’6″ tall and will have to hem the Arubas. Also in comparison, these Arubas were much tighter/snug in the waist (and longer) compared to the same sizes for Royal Robbins Discovery, Ex-Officio Nomad and some REI pants.

On the positive side, the Arubas fabric is similar to the Cascades, so I assume they’ll dry quickly so great for travel laundry and also lightweight for luggage/packing weight. The colors offered are also practical/easy to match, no weird bright green or yellow colors. The feature to roll the legs up to capri length are also better looking than the “zip off leg” style which looks too casual and bulky in addition to the possibility of losing the zipped off leg pieces or fading/wearing unevenly.

The other plus is that these Aruba pants also has an extra front zipper pocket on the thigh, just below the one near the waistband, perfect for cell phone, passport or securing small items. This thigh pocket is just large enough to fit a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a case. A passport would fit since it’s not as tall as the Edge phone.

For my travel pants I want that secured, front thigh pocket-essential to keep my cell phone in, much easier than trying to pull it out of a purse or backpack. And it’s very difficult to find women’s travel pants with this pocket feature. When will these clothing companies finally figure this out???

Anyways, the lightweight, quick drying, and large enough for my cell phone secured front thigh pocket works ok for me during travels. Just wish that the waist was more comfortable and Columbia was more consistent in their sizing, so I’d give them 3.5 stars. If they would fit better or more consistently then probably 4 to 4.5 stars. And of course offering more practical women’s travel clothes with the features we need.

So with these Arubas definitely size up, one or even two sizes, depending on your body curves. And possibly need to hem, although this length is probably good for the taller persons.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 17) Columbia Men’s Royce Range Pant

Men's Royce Range Pant

Product Summary: Looking for a versatile, comfortable pant that can take you from the office to the great outdoors? Look no further than the Royce Range Pant from Columbia. Made from a soft, durable fabric, these pants are perfect for everyday wear. They feature a relaxed fit that’s comfortable to move in, and they have a water-resistant finish that helps keep you dry in wet weather. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or just exploring your surroundings, the Royce Range Pant is a great choice for any activity.

A 5-Star Review: What I like about these pants is how useful they are; they look nice so I can wear them on a nice night out but they’re stretch and water resistance so great for hikes and outdoor activities.

A Critical Review: These pants are great.
Why on earth would you make one belt loop smaller than the others?
The first belt loop to the right of the fly, aka the last loop if you thread your belt counter clockwise like me, it’s smaller, and the belts I use have rigid end clasps that pass through every loop exurbs last one. So, I have to skip this loop and my pants picked all weird. Pants are great stretch, great fit. Whatever this smaller loop functions, it’s lost on me. I bought multiple pairs of these pants as well.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 18) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail II Knee Pant

Women's Saturday Trail II Knee Pant

Product Summary: These pants are the perfect choice for a day spent hiking on the trails. They are made from a lightweight and durable fabric that will keep you comfortable all day long. The pants have a relaxed fit that gives you plenty of room to move, and the waistband can be adjusted to get the perfect fit. There are also several pockets that are perfect for holding your essentials.

A Critical Review: I own several pairs of Saturday Trail pants in different styles and love them. This pair looked okay, but they are advertised as new tet have no tags and smell like they were soaked in strongly scented fabric freshener. It’s so strong I couldn’t try them on. I quickly shoved them back in the bag and sealed it up. There is no way the scent can be easily removed. I feel like there should be a disclaimer so people with sensitivities or those who just like unscented clothing will not bother ordering these pants.
Obviously, I’m returning them.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 19) Columbia Women’s Extended Saturday Trail II Convertible Pant

Women's Extended Saturday Trail II Convertible Pant

Product Summary: If you like to be prepared for anything when you head out on a hike, you need a pair of pants that can do it all. The Columbia Women’s Extended Saturday Trail II Convertible Pant can do just that. They’re made with a comfortable stretch fabric that’s perfect for moving, and they have UPF 50 sun protection to keep you safe from the sun’s harmful rays. Plus, they’re convertible, so you can zip off the legs when the temperature starts to rise. No matter what your day has in store, these pants will help you take on anything.

A 5-Star Review: I love Columbia pants, and practically live in them.

But I find the sizing hard to predict. I ordered according to the size chart, and the pants were huge. (Amazon, meanwhile, suggested an even larger size would “fit me best.”)

I’d really prefer to go to a Columbia store so I could try them on, but I no longer live an area where this is possible. Luckily, Amazon offers free returns on this item. I sent them back.

A Critical Review: These pants are lightweight and good quality. They just where tight where the zipper is on the leg/knee part. Would have been great for hiking just not loose enough.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 20) Columbia Mens Silver Ridge Cargo Pant, Black, 50W x 34L

Mens Silver Ridge Cargo Pant, Black, 50W x 34L

Made from a lightweight and breathable fabric, these pants are perfect for warm weather hikes. They feature multiple pockets for storage, as well as a comfortable fit that won’t hold you back on the trail.

A 5-Star Review: Get one or two sizes larger

Columbia Hiking Pants # 21) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Stretch Pant

Women's Saturday Trail Stretch Pant

Product Summary: The Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Stretch Pant is a versatile and comfortable pant that can be worn on the trail or around town. The pant is made of a stretchy fabric that is comfortable to wear and move in, and has a UPF rating of 50 to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays. The pant has a relaxed fit and is available in a variety of colors to suit your style.

A 5-Star Review: I purchased the Just Right capri, the Aruba capri and the Saturday Trail Capri in identical sizes. I also order the Saturday Trail pant and Anytime Outdoor boot cut pant. There is quite a bit of difference in fit. With this garment I see in the listing that it talks about how the different styles are cut. That should be in ALL the listings and not just in some of them. It should also be clearly stated how the particular garment you are looking at falls in that chart.
The Just Right capri is much looser in the waist and leg when compared to the Saturday Trail knee pant. They are not baggy, just not as close to the skin. Definitely a more relaxed feel. They are also a few inches longer. The Saturday Trail comes midway across my knee cap, the Just Right capri come a good 2-4 inches below my knee.

The Saturday Trail line of knee pants and longs pants can NOT be “dressed up” as it really looks athletic with a fit very close to the body.
I had ordered the Aruba pant that could be rolled up to a capri length that was said to run small so order one size larger. The other issue with the Aruba is it had only an exterior button to hold the cuff in place so the inside of the leg kept coming unrolled (especially since it was already too large in the leg).

Yes it runs slimmer just as the knee pants do, but when rolled up it fits closer to your leg and has buttons on both the inseam and outside seam to hold the cuff in place. I really appreciate the versatility that having the capacity to wear as either a long pant or a capri that the Saturday Trail pant provides. When cuffed it looks like it was intended to be that way as opposed to looking like you just rolled up a pair of long pants!
I had also ordered the Just Right long pant in a boot cut. I loved the fit, not as tight as the Saturday Trail around the waist and not as close to the body over all. But a boot cut without wearing a boot just looks a bit silly! I tried them on with sandals and from the side they looked great but from the front and back they looked “bell” shaped on the bottom as a result of the boot cut which is really not flattering on most women. If I end up wearing these in the fall and winter, I can see going back and getting one with a boot cut as I have so man pairs of boots. Unlike the Saturday Trail, the Just Right long pant doesn’t really work well as a rolled up capri so you loose that bit of versatility.
The first two pairs of Columbia pants I purchased were at Marshalls and I paid no attention to the name of them. When I went to get more I had to order one of most styles to find the pant which came closer to the ones I purchased last year which must have been discontinued. (If you know how to find the style number/name from interior tags let me know please!)
While I have not tired other companies versions of the Columbia bottoms, I tend to be brand loyal when I find one which is so well made, which washes well, fits well and will last for more than one season. I can’t compare to the Eddie Bauer for example because the Columbia ones while more expensive had performed so well that I had no interest in trying them. I would be interested in reviews which compare other manufacturers pants for future reference but for now I am sticking with Columbia, they are simply that good.
HOPE THIS HELPS! And to all the buyers who leave detailed reviews THANK YOU. I always look at the customer reviews on Amazon because they are generally so well done

A Critical Review: I’ve bought these 3y ago and the waist measurement for 20 Plus at the time was 44 inches. These new ones measure out at 42 inches. Trouble is, sizing up means they no longer fit right in the leg or rear. I dunno if Columbia is trying to save money by using less material, but it aint right. Otherwise they are nice and stretchy. But it also means I can’t buy these anymore

Columbia Hiking Pants # 22) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail II Convertible Pant

Women's Saturday Trail II Convertible Pant

Product Summary: Looking for a versatile pair of pants to add to your outdoor wardrobe? Check out the Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail II Convertible Pants. These pants can be worn as both shorts and pants, making them a great choice for a day hike or a longer trek. They’re made with a lightweight and breathable fabric, so you’ll stay comfortable even when the temperature rises. Plus, they have plenty of pockets for storing your essentials. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just starting out, the Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail II Convertible Pants are a great option for your next adventure.

A 5-Star Review: I’m a huge fan of Columbia’s Saturday Trail ii line of pants. So much so that this is my second pair of the convertible version, in addition to the two “regular” and one insulated that I own. They are well made, very comfortable, functional and flattering. The other pair of convertible pants I have (in the “grill” color) is still in perfect condition after over a year of heavy use. I bought this to have an additional pair in another color (British Tan), not because the other needed replacing.

The feature I love most about these pants is their comfort. I have never had such comfortable pants! They fit well, have just the right amount of stretch. I love them for hiking (and all the jumping, squatting, and stretching that goes along with it), but also for long car or plane rides.

Another feature I love about these pants is their incredible versatility. There is the obvious aspect of versatility in that they can be worn as shorts (falling about 3-4 inches above the knee) or full length pants, but there are many other reasons that they are so versatile as well.

One is the light-weight, breathable fabric that makes them comfortable and functional in a variety of weather conditions. I have worn them (with the full-length pant legs) from 50 degree to 98 degree weather, and was comfortable in that whole range. When worn as shorts, they are so cool and light and airy that it is almost like wearing nothing at all. They are also quick-drying and water resistant (though not water-proof) as well as UVA protected, making them ideal in both wet conditions and blazing sun.

Another versatile aspect is their style. These pants look good not just on the trail, but around town. The “outdoorsy” features such as breathable panels (hidden in the pockets) and zip-away legs are discrete. There is ample pocket space, but no bulky and unflattering cargo pockets, or a ton of zippers and buttons. I wear them all the time to go hiking, but they are also often my go-to pants for when I don’t want to look like a slob, but also want to be extremely comfortable. These pants are perfect if your plans for the day include taking a hike, doing some shopping, and eating at a nicer restaurant. The shorts are a nice length, too. Long enough to be modest and practical, but a bit shorter than “Bermuda” style.

In the spring, summer, and fall I walk/hike almost daily, and enjoy camping frequently, and these are always my go-to pants. Even if I start out the day wearing shorts, I always bring the pant legs along to use if needed not only if the temperature changes, but also for protection from my legs getting scratched or bitten by insects or ticks if I end up in some more rugged areas. I love not having to choose between avoiding exploring an area with tall grass/dense woods, or having my legs covered in ticks and chiggers.

These pants are PERFECT to take on vacation, as well. They take up a very small amount of space in your suitcase (about 1/4th of what a pair of jeans would) and are light as a feather. As mentioned above, they also look good and are appropriate for a variety of occasions. And because they are dirt and stain repellant and quick drying, you can wear the same pair for days in a row, or wash in the hotel sink as needed.

As for the color, British Tan is a standard khaki color, a bit on the light side. Honestly, this is probably my least favorite of the 3 colors I have (grill and midnight), but that is only because I’ve never preferred khaki colored pants. They look nice and match everything, and are a great option if you want a light-colored pair of pants. The light color does show dirt more than the others, however, because these pants are so dirt/stain replant, you can easily brush them clean. One advantage of this color is that it is very easy to spot ticks and little thorny seeds that can attach to you when hiking.

As for the fit, I typically wear size 7 or 8 pants with an average length. While the size 8 of these pants does fit me, it is very “fitted” through the thighs and rear. I like a more relaxed fit, therefore I order the size 10. The length is perfect and it is a roomy (though not baggy) fit through the legs and rear end. The waist is a bit big (I have an hourglass figure, but I do not have flat abs), however, it’s perfect with a belt and not so big that they fall off without a belt. I do not have a problem with the zip-off leg zipper being too tight around my thighs in the size 8 or 10, as many reviewers stated.

A Critical Review: I have purchased Columbia pants for work regularly for almost 10 years. I was recommended to get these since they’re one of the top rated versions of Columbia hiking pants. I know their sizing is weird and not super forgiving but I’m almost 99% of the time a size 10. I ordered a 10 and right where the pants “convert” with the zipper was so uncomfortable and my legs felt like if I sat in the pants I would bust out of them. So I ordered a 12 instead and it wasn’t much better and still tight in the leg but if I went up any higher in the waist my pants would not stay up. Additionally, the quality for Columbia pants lately has TANKED. I have only worn these maybe 10 times and on the one time I converted the pants to shorts the zipper broke off of one of the pant legs. I wish I had nicer things to say about these pants because other than your legs feeling like they’re in sausage casings they’re flattering pants for the most part. But poor quality in sizing standards that DO NOT fit with the average woman body made it much lower in my case.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 23) Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant

Men's Silver Ridge Convertible Pant

Product Summary: The Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant is a versatile pant that can be worn as a full-length pant or as a short. It is made with a comfortable stretch fabric that is perfect for hiking, camping, or any outdoor activity. The pant has a zippered leg opening that makes it easy to convert from a pant to a short. It also has two zippered pockets that are perfect for storing your essentials. The Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant is a must-have for any man who loves the outdoors.

A 5-Star Review: Had heard of and been looking for these Columbia Silver Ridge convertible pants. I will say they are great for their purpose. We will be traveling and needed to limit luggage. Allows long pants and shorts in one product. Sizing is pretty consistent with normal sizing.

A Critical Review: In the FL heat and humidity these work great!
I can half unzip the zippers to vent air in when my legs/body gets too hot.

The material has next to no flex and fit weird around my waist/ backside. I feel like I’m always showing butt crack whenever I bend (I’m not, they just fit weird and feel like it.) These run small, I needed to get a size longer/bigger than I normally would to compensate for the non stretch material and fit.

The top pockets are mesh, which helps with airflow but I have zero confidence that my car keys and other work items I carry won’t destroy the pockets over time.

The side “cargo” pockets are VERY LOW, meaning that anything you have in that pocket is going to be bouncing off of your knee, this is a bad design and not a joy to use.

Worth the purchase just for how thin and breezy the material is, but for a job that requires a bunch of squatting/bending, I wouldn’t recommend these pants… both 5.11 and Duluth offer better pants for that purpose, they’re just not as light and comfortable.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 24) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant

Women's Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant

Product Summary: Whether you’re hitting the trails or just running errands, these versatile pants will keep you comfortable all day long. They’re made with a lightweight, stretchy fabric that’s quick-drying and has UPF 50 sun protection. The legs convert from pants to capri length, so you can easily adjust for changing conditions. Plus, there are plenty of pockets for storing your essentials.

A 5-Star Review: I adore these pants!!!! Nothing negative to say. I’d give them more stars if I could!

I love hiking and taking long walks through country fields and woods with my dog. I was looking for something cool enough to wear in the summer, yet still comfortable for weather in the upper 40s-lower 50s, is water resistant, is comfortable to move around in, is quick drying, provides some protection against sun, brush, and bugs, is wrinkle resistant, has functional pockets, is compact in a suitcase or backpack, and attractive enough to wear into town if hiking sight seeing, shopping and/or eating out are all on the schedule for the day.

That’s a lot to ask, yet these pants fulfilled every quality on my list! Not only that, they fit me better than any other pants I own, and they are exceptionally comfortable.

I wear typically wear a jeans size of 7 or 9 in junior sizes, and an 8 in ladies. I ordered the 10 regular and they fit perfectly. They are slim fitting but not tight, and the length is perfect when wearing shoes (a teensy bit long if barefoot or in thin flip flops.) There is plenty of stretch, so you can walk, run, sit, bend, squat, stretch, climb, or crawl (I’ve done all) with comfort and ease and without worry that they will split a seam! 🙂

A few reviewers mentioned that they are too tight around the convertible shorts zipper around the thigh. I agree this is the most snug part of the pants, especially when you squat or climbhowever for me it is not at all too tight or uncomfortable.

As for the convertible aspect, I was worried the pants would look tacky or that they would be too much of a hassle to use, but I was wrong in both counts. The zipper is very discrete, and they easily zip on and off in seconds. I’ve even done this on the trail while wearing shoes! The shorts fall about 3 inches above my knees, which is my ideal length for shorts. One detail I love is that the zippers on the pant legs are labeled with an “L” and “R” so you know which leg to put them on. The legs could be fit into the front pants pockets, if you aren’t carrying a backpack.

These pants are excellent for travel. They are light as can be and take up very little space in your luggage/backpack. I’ve washed them in the sink and hung them to dry overnight with no problem. They did get a little wrinkled, but the wrinkles fell out after wearing the pants for a short time.

While not water proof, these pants are water resistant. I’ve been caught in a light rain or dribbled water into them, and I’ve stayed dry. If they are submerged or in a heavy rain, you will get wet. The nice thing is they dry very quickly. I had a water bottle tip over in the car and my bottom was completely soaked- absolutely dripping wet. It was sunny, a bit breezy, and fairly hot that day, and the pants dried completely within 20 minutes of walking around outside.

They are true to the stain resistant claim as well. In addition to dirt, mud, and grass, I’ve subjected these poor pants to spilt coffee and ketchup. The fabric kind of repelled the spilt liquid. What little did soak in came right out with merely a damp napkin!

I ordered the “grill” color. It is a medium light grey, with a bit of a beige tinge. It goes great with everything, including both black and brown tones. It’s dark enough that it’s not at all see-through.

A Critical Review: I am 5’9″ about 135 lbs. I am a size 6 tall and these fit okay. The zip-off area was too narrow in the mid-thigh. I had to return these pants. I really did like the material and color, but, these are designed for someone with thin thighs.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 25) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail II Stretch Lined Hiking Pants, Water Repellent, Insulated

Women's Saturday Trail II Stretch Lined Hiking Pants, Water Repellent, Insulated

Product Summary: If you like to hike in all kinds of weather, you need a pair of pants that can keep up. These pants from Columbia are perfect for hikes in cooler weather, thanks to their water repellent and insulated fabric. They’re also lined with a comfortable stretch fabric, so you can move freely on the trail. Plus, they have multiple pockets for storing all your essentials.

A 5-Star Review: This is my second omni-heat lined pants from Columbia. I have the first gen version of this pants in black and it was wonderful. It looks like regular unlined pants because it’s non-bulky, yet it kept me warm down to 20s alone and single digits w/ a light weight long undie in NYC last winter. When wore alone indoors they didn’t overheat either, so I just wore it all day long. There are 2 flaws with that pair though: the black fabric shows lint, dirt and pet hair too well; the waist is huge and I need a belt to keep them on.

This year I bought a new and improved version in gray to reduce the lint and dirt display. It now has an adjustable waist with buttoned elastic in the interior of the belt line. While it creates a bunched look on the back of the belt line it will be covered by my shirt(s) anyway. The pants fit true to size. It’s not tight and not loose (other than the waist, which can be tightened). The omni-heat lining is smooth and soft and very comfortable on the skin. Be sure to wear them indoors for a little while before heading out into the frigid cold. The lining works by trapping body heat, so it works the best when you have enough time to develop the heat layer under the lining. I follow this rule with all my omni-heat lined clothing in order to reach their full warming potential.

These pants have total of 5 pockets – a zippered security pocket on lower right thigh; 2 hand pockets of decent size, and 2 back pockets closed by velcro. Waist is closed by 2 snap buttons. I prefer snap buttons and they stay put even if I squat deeply down.

The pants material (both the outer light weight fabric and the interior omni-heat lining) are stretchy. Like all stretchy pants they can become looser as the day goes on. By second or third day they may seem a size too big, but laundering will “shrink” them back to the original size. Meanwhile, you can always tightened the waist more or use a belt to keep them comfortably on.

The pants outer layer is moisture resistant, but because it’s very thin it can still get soaked if it’s more than a light drizzle. I would not roll around in the snow in them either. At least the fabric is very soft, unlike most water-proof fabric that’s noisy and stiff. It will dry reasonably fast if it does get wet.

UPDATE on November 2018: 3 years later I am still wearing it! It’s as good as new.

A Critical Review: I so want to love these pants!! They are very comfortable with great stretch and they’re nice and warm in cold weather without being bulky and cumbersome. I love to wear them when hiking in the snow or chilly temps when I don’t need the waterproof snow pants.

But my biggest issue with these pants is the length. First, I wear a size 12 or 14 in almost all other brands of pants. The size 14s fit me snugly and comfortably, except they’re about 4-5 inches too short. So I bought a 16 to compensate and hope they would drape a little longer on me and I was stoked to see that the waistband can be adjusted smaller. The 16s fit, but they are still too short. So off to the Columbia website I went to see if they made these in tall sizes. NOPE, but they do make shorter length. So disappointing! I don’t have crazy long legs, I’m 5’9″ and can often wear regular length pants and be fine, but these are shorter than usual.

If you’re a tall woman who needs a 32″ inseam or longer, look to another brand. Prana and Duluth Trading make lined hiking pants that are longer.

The pockets aren’t really deep enough to hold much other than some keys. My cell phone doesn’t even really fit. There’s a cargo pocket too, but again, it doesn’t hold a whole lot. The reason I bought these was so I could have hiking pants with pockets. If I didn’t care about pockets, I’d wear leggings.

Lastly, Columbia… the 16 is the largest size you make. You do know that there are LOTS of women who are bigger who would love these pants, right?

Plus, they have a UPF 50 rating, so you’ll be protected from the sun’s harmful rays. The pants have a relaxed fit and are available in a 20W Long size.

A 5-Star Review: “India Ink” looks like “grille” in person, or they sent the wrong color twice. I returned them and ordered black. Unfortunately, plus size and long length only comes in “active fit”; I would prefer “comfort fit”. I ordered up a size to make them work, but they are still a tad tight around the thigh.

A 5-Star Review: One word for the Columbia Silver Ridge Convertible Pants…..A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

I’m 26 years old. I was afraid I’d be judged and ridiculed by my peers for purchasing and overusing pants that turn into shorts. To be honest, I stopped listening to my friends after the first criticism because I was in paradise wearing these glorious pants. When I’m in these bad boys, I feel like I might as well just never take them off. Here’s why:

-The fabric feels like it was developed in the future and sent back to Columbia via time machine. There’s no way you can make something SO comfortable with modern day textile factories. All kidding aside, I traveled 24 hours in planes in these pants and I can’t think of anything better to wear.

-Length and width were as advertised. The scary part of ordering clothes online are always the dimensions. You ask yourself “will I be getting another set of clown clothes?” Not in this case. Don’t order too small in the waste, as the belt allows you tighten things up nicely.

-Did I mention these turn into SHORTS?! I don’t care if 40 year old men rock these all day, I’m right there with them. My friends were making fun of me until they started sweating their asses off in jeans. I simply zipped and ripped…bam I was wearing shorts!!! The zippers are very high quality, no snags and easy to reassemble (even though you look ridiculous if you put the shins back on while your wearing the shorts).

All in all, these are great pants for walking long distances, traveling, and making everyone else look like an amateur. “Transform” your life and buy these bad boys. You won’t give a crap what people say when your legs feel like they are resting in between sheets of pure joy.

A Critical Review: The back pockets’ and front right pocket’s stitching failed in less than 2 months and I had to take them to a taylor to fix it. They failed under the weight of a minimalist wallet, a handkerchief and my key ring with 5 keys on it…each in a separate pocket. The only the front left has a Chapstick in it and that one didn’t fail. I bought these in replacement of the ones I had nearly 10 years and it’s clear corners have been cut. Even the belt is made in a cheaper fashion. I won’t buy these again.

A 5-Star Review: Ich bin hellauf begeistert.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 31) Columbia Saturday Trail Straight Convertible Leg Pant

Saturday Trail Straight Convertible Leg Pant

Product Summary: If you’re looking for a versatile pair of pants that can take you from the trail to the city, look no further than the Columbia Saturday Trail Straight Convertible Leg Pants. Made from a lightweight, stretchy fabric, these pants are comfortable and allow you to move freely. They also have a UPF 50 rating, so you can be sure you’re protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Plus, they have a zip-off design that lets you convert them into shorts when the weather gets warm. Whether you’re hiking, camping, or just running errands, the Columbia Saturday Trail Straight Convertible Leg Pants are a great choice.

A 5-Star Review: I love the weight and convenience of these pants. However, they run small – I typically wear an 8 or 10 and ordered 10, which was tight through the hips. I also have strong thighs, which are binding at the zipper when I sit. I’ve ordered a 12 to see if the size issue resolves both problems.

Update: Size 12 solved the general sizing. The zipper is still a bit snug, but the pants are still comfortable. I’ve increased my rating from 3 to 4 stars. I really do like these pants, it’s just the sizing issue.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 32) Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant

Men's Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant

Product Summary: This versatile pant features a durable water repellent (DWR) finish and UPF 50 sun protection making it perfect for a day of hiking or fishing. The Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant also features Omni-Shade technology that reflects UV rays, Omni-Shield advanced repellency and articulated knees for a comfortable fit.

A 5-Star Review: I love these pants! I bought these to help me travel light. The duo function helps me to bring less and the material is so light and dries very easily. I do wish that the front pockets could have been made from a solid material as it would prevent the contents in the pocket from poking or chaffing the wearer’s legs. For the price, it is a great convertible pant.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 33) Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant, Water & Stain Resistant

Women's Saturday Trail Ii Convertible Pant, Water & Stain Resistant

Product Summary: The Columbia Women’s Saturday Trail II Convertible Pant is the perfect choice for a day spent outdoors. The pants are made from a water and stain resistant fabric, and feature a convertible design that allows them to be worn as either pants or shorts. The waistband is adjustable for a comfortable fit, and the pants also have two front pockets and two back pockets for storing your essentials.

A 5-Star Review: Great pants. I love that there is a “short” fitting option. Being 5′ 3″ that fits me well length-wise. It’s a bit tight around the thigh where the zippers are compared to the rest of the pant leg though, which is my only complaint about the fit.

A Critical Review: I like the pants a lot, they look great and the quality is great too. They genuinely are lightweight, stretch just enough, and dry really quick. They are the only hiking pants on the market that I would dare to wear to work too, they actually look nice. There’s two reasons why I have given them 3 stars instead of 5 – firstly, all the reviews that say that the zippers on the thighs are too tight, are right. Listen to those reviews. If you plan to sit at all with these pants on, the zippers will dig. Secondly, the sewing is coming off after 1 month of light use. Not the best of expensive Columbia pants.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 34) Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant, Grill, 32

Men's Silver Ridge Convertible Pant, Grill, 32

Product Summary: If you’re looking for a versatile pant that can go from the trail to the town, look no further than the Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant. These pants are made from a lightweight yet durable fabric that is perfect for any adventure. They also feature a comfortable fit with a zip-off design that makes them easy to take on and off. Plus, the multiple pockets are perfect for storing all of your essential gear.

A 5-Star Review: LOVE these pants!

I am getting back into hiking and backpacking after 20 years and was looking to get my first pair of convertible pants. These feel great and were quick to dry after getting a little wet. I was very comfortable wearing these as both pants and shorts. As pants I was completely comfortable in these through a wide range of temperatures. My first experience with these was a 2 night 14 mile hike with temperatures ranging 50-70 degrees and they performed above my expectations. I was warm when the temp dropped to 50 at night around the small fire and cool during the day when it spiked to 70 and sunny. Loved them!

The waist was tight, but thats probably just me… The legs were a tight fit, but never felt constrictive, probably great for wicking moisture. If you are wearing boots, you might have to take them off to remove the bottom legs if you unzip and convert them on the trail.

A Critical Review: The first time I bought these, they lasted me 1.5 years and developed a tear near the back pocket.

The second time I bought these, I used them on a 18 day backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail. The stitching on the front velcro pocket started coming out, one of the back velcro pockets also starting coming out, and the inseam started tearing.

I sent the second one back in for warranty work (on my own dime), and they gave me a gift card to spend on their site that covered the cost and standard shipping of a new pair.

Columbia Hiking Pants # 35) Columbia Womens Bugaboo™ Omni-Heat Pant

Womens Bugaboo™ Omni-Heat Pant

Product Summary: The Columbia Women‘s Bugaboo OmniHeat Pant is a great choice for winter activities. It is made with OmniHeat technology to reflect your body heat and keep you warm. The pant is also water resistant and has a comfortable fit.

A 5-Star Review: Love the fit , color and warmth. I ski the East where it can be very cold. These pants Keep me warm all day on the slopes. They are mid Rise and not a tight fit so very comfortable. Highly recommend for anyone who wants warmth and comfort on the slopes or for any winter sport. My current Bugaboos are 15 years old and are in great condition. When searching for a new pant, I tried many brands (more expensive) but most were low rise and tight (and too long) not what I was looking for so I went back to Columbia Bugaboo and so happy I did.

A Critical Review: These pants are nice and a great color, but the back is really loose. It needs some elastic to make sure they fit well and snow doesn’t get in your pants. Because of this I’m between sizes and had to find a different brand.

Conclusion:

Columbia Hiking Pants are a great choice for anyone looking for a quality pair of pants to hike in. They are comfortable, durable, and have a great fit. They also come in a variety of colors and styles, so you can find the perfect pair of pants to match your hiking gear.
