Shashur Gompa

Shashur Gompa is a small Olde worlde Buddhist shrine of the Drugpa sect built in 16th Century. It is located 2km from the hill-town of Keylong. Surrounded by beautiful blue pine trees, it is perched at 6000 meters above the valley. The Gompa is known for its learning centre as well as its excellent architecture.

the 84 Siddhas of Buddhism, 5 meter tall Thangka and a statue of Namgyal. For adventure seekers, the route is full of hilly terrains and narrow valleys. The best time to visit is June and July when an annual festival is celebrated. Colourful dresses and masks are worn by monks and they perform the devil dance. As you make your way to the monastery through difficult tract, chortens and a beautiful mani wall will catch your attention. Inscribed on these stones is the extremely sacred Buddhist ritual mantra or invocation – OM MANI PADME HUM – The Jewel in the Heart of the Lotus.
