Agrasen ki Baoli in Delhi is a 60 metre by 15 metre historical stepwell near the Connaught Place. It is said to have been by legendary king Agrasen during the Mahabharat era. Today, this monument is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. The word ‘Baoli’, when translated to Hindi, means ‘step-well.’

Agrasen ki Baoli is the epicentre of many haunted stories. There are ancient rumours that it was filled with ‘Black Water’ and attracted people with depressed hearts and enticed them to commit suicide. But the water has dried up long ago. Today, bats and pigeons have made it their abode, their sounds adding to the creepiness of the area. People still believe that strange things happen at the monument after night sets in. Many reports of strange presences have made the headlines. But Agrasen ki Baoli remains one of the oldest and the best preserved monument in the country.
