Jeep Safari at Singalila National Park
The Jeep Safari in Singalila National Park is a coveted journey for most tourists. Ringed by stretches of greenery, amidst the lofty pine trees and vibrant rhododendrons, the safari is a feast for the eyes. October-January is particularly favourable for the safari to clearly view the glorious peaks. You may have chance encounters with the red panda, black bears on your ride through this reserved forest.
The trip begins at Manebhanjan which can be reached from Darjeeling via car. Next, a landrover will drive you through the unique landscape, passing local Gorkha villages on its way to Sandakphu, the highest peak of West Bengal and Phalut. These spots offer panoramic views of Nepal Himalayas and famous peaks like Mt. Everest, Kanchenjungha and Makalu. The trail passes through Tumling and Kalapokhri ; private lodges are available for staying overnight at the former. The trip is suitable for the whole family as a high level of physical fitness is not essential. Overall, this is a ride to remember.
