Sayaji Baug

#Garden in Vadodara

This large park on the banks of the river in the center of the city, across from the busy railway station and bus stand, was built by Maharaja Sayajirao III in 1879 and named after him, but also commonly known as Kamati Baug. Take at least half a day to fully explore the 45 hectares of garden grounds, with 2 museums, a zoo, a planetarium, a flower clock, and an operational toy train, among other attractions, and then come back to the park whenever you need a respite from activities in the rest of the city.

"The park is a great place to hangout with friends. The atmosphere here is very lively with a lot of activities going on around. There's live music played all the time on the speakers all around the park. In the morning you can see people of all ages, running on the tracks, in the afternoon, kids can be seen playing around. Mostly couples are seen during the evening and night time. There's a toy train running around the entire Park in the evening, which I believe is a bit expensive. There's an amazing fountain which they usually light up at night. There are a lot of plans for the park, like rebuilding the old suspension bridge and a new butterfly park planned for future. The park is a great place to hangout with friends, but I wouldn't recommend for a date. About the zoo, which isn't maintained properly at all by the authority. The bird section has many birds, but some of the cages are empty. They used to have a hippopotamus, but the poor thing died years ago. Coming to other sections, the Lions, Tigers, leopards all look too skinny. I doubt they feed them properly. Unlike the zoo in Surat who keep the animals in their natural environment, here they're kept in very small cages. The people who visit also sometimes harass the animals in the cage. The security is worse. "
