Jal Mahal ( Water Palace) is one of the most astonishing monuments of the pink city Jaipur. Also called Lake Palace, this exquisite building is built in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake and the palace appears to float on it. The light, sand-colored stone walls and the deep blue of the water make for a wonderful contrast. The Jal Mahal is a five storied building, four of which remains under water.
The Palace was built by Maharaja Madho Singh I for his duck hunting parties. The architecture of the palace resembles a perfect blend of Rajput and Mughal style of architecture. The majestic scene of this palace floating on the Man Sagar Lake makes it the most photographed monument of Jaipur. The Jal Mahal's images look stunning in the evening when the whole palace is lit up. Tourists also enjoy the variety of street food market and camel rides near the Palace. There used to be gondolas which provided romantic boat rides across the lake but it has been stopped now. The Palace is now to be transformed into an ultra-exclusive restaurant.
