One of the most popular bird sanctuaries in Tamil Nadu is the Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, visited by an assortment of migratory birds all round the year. It has a historical significance that the sanctuary was preserved by the locals as the water there could serve as the best crop fertiliser.

The main visitors of the sanctuary are the open billed storks, cormorants,etc. Tourists are attracted to the sanctuary by the flocks of water birds like Ibis, herons migrating here. From the entrance to the exit the sanctuary leaves no stone unturned in keeping its visitors engaged.
