Suchindram is famous for the Thanumalaya Perumal temple which is also called Suchindram Anjaneyar Temple. Known for its sculptural grandeur the temple has a majestic seven-storeyed white Gopuram which is visible from quite a distance. The Hanuman statue in Suchindram was buried in 1740 AD fearing an attack by the Tipu Sultan and was forgotten. It was rediscovered in 1930 and restored for public viewing.
