Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden
Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden is located at Joshipura around 3.3 km away from city center. The word Sakkar means sugar and Baug mean garden. This 490-acre zoo is famous around the world for the Asiatic Lions.
It was established in 1863 by Babi Nawabs of Junagadh in order to save the Asiatic Lion from extinction. It is India's oldest zoo. People get the chance to see skeletons of wild animals like Asian Lion, Panther, Wild Boar, Black Buck, Blue Bull, and Spotted Deer. There are other interesting things like feathers of different kind of birds, different kind of eggs and Beaks. The zoo has over 525 mammals and 597 birds.
