It has bunch of Flora (Teak, Rosewood, Sandal, etc) and Fauna (Tiger, Python, Barking Deer, etc). Jungle Safari is one of the attractions. One can easily get 10-seater and 15-seater Open vehicle to closely explore the National Park.”

                        “Absolutely overrated, not worth to spend all day. If you are more than 100km from Nagarhole and have precious 1day – spend it somewhere else (think Melkote, Sravana Belagola, Belakupe Golden Temple). Aside from “safari” there are no place to hang out, eat, buy water, see something, have a walk, enjoy nature. Simply long road through forest up to reception/ticket center and “safari” to forest. As usual with all Indian “attractions” organization is ridiculous and at it’s worst. Calls are not received. We came at 11am, tried to buy ticket for safari for 3pm. We were told they cannot sell tickets, we must wait until 2:45pm although cashier was present at counter. When we came at 2:40, they told tickets for jeep safari was already sold, no more jeeps available, only bus, we must wait for 3:30 and they cannot guarantee safari unless 10 people will come to register. If you happen to be foreigner you will pay 1100, almost 4 times as much as locals (we must charge Indians 4 times as much in Europe too to keep equality balance), with no guarantees to receive service at all. The safari bus was a joke – monster emitting black smoke, creating tremendous noise – truly “ecological”, “silent” animal “magnet”, that scares all wildlife 1km afar. As expected we saw nothing except deer and few monkeys, same thing you see while driving to reception center for free. Forget about tigers or anything else. You may try your luck at early morning going in jeep, but keep in mind that tigers are not in special zone where you are driven in fenced bus to see them few meters away. You are simply driven to forest and your chances a rather slim to encounter and see these predators. Overall, not worth it.”

Children below 14, elderly people above 60, and pregnant ladies are not allowed to raft. The rafting cost is between Rs. 1000- Rs. 1300 for around 2 hours in the hands of the fierceness of Barapola waters. The raft includes several rapids the first one being morning coffee, following it the Grasshopper rapid, the Wicked with rapid and finally the Big Bang. The speed and swiftness of the rapid are perfect for a mind-blowing rafting experience. It is noteworthy to put on comfortable clothes for the rafting activity and avoid clothes like sarees and suits, which are not allowed for the activity.

Honey Valley is a tourist’s attraction due to the beautiful resort that offers a scenic view and a peaceful shelter in the lap of nature. This 56-acre resort is a private property. Nilakandi waterfalls of the honey valley in Coorg are an offset from nature which brings you closer to yourself. A 45-minute trek from the honey valley, scorching through the dense forests leads you to the veiled natural beauty. The source of Nilakandi waterfalls are the Thadiyendamol ranges and various small streams can be spotted near the waterfall. The trek to Nilakandi waterfalls is short but is marked by a difficult terrain. The lands near the waterfalls are unsuitable for camping, which rules out the idea of night camping, so travelers have to return from the waterfalls the same day. This trek is considered to be an was one.

                            The remains of the Gaddige raja’s tomb are protected under the Archaeological Sites Act by the government of Karnataka. The place is still an attractive tourist spot due to the history it is associated with. On the edge of a hilltop in the town stands this tomb reflecting the marvels of into-scenic style (Muhammadan edifices) it is built with. It speaks about the fading history of Kodava royalty with its design. 2 main tombs surround the central structure, the right one being a dedication to Linga Rajendra built by his son and the left one called the Rudrappa (the royal priests), built to honor his loyalty. The central structure is a tribute to Dodda Veera Rajendra and his Queen the central figures in the history of Kodavu rulers. Two small structures can also be seen with inscriptions on them, these were to honor the buried Royal officials. Gaddige Raja’s tomb is easy to reach from Madikeri bus stand. The visiting hours exceed from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm with a minimal entry fee of Rs. 2 per person. The tourism department of Karnataka has also added gardens around the tomb to add on the value of the place.

                            Brahmagiri wildlife sanctuary is a 181 sq.m wildlife sanctuary near the Brahmagiri peak; the place of worship of the seven sages. Not only the natural vegetation of semi-evergreen, evergreen, and shola forests the plantations of coffee and cardamom also surround the sanctuary from all its sides. The Brahmagiri wildlife sanctuary is a part of the famous Brahmagiri trek and can be accessed from Bengaluru by a cab. There are various valleys and hillocks on the trek trail and the Barapole river divides the sanctuary into two reserve forest areas, namely; Brahmagiri and Urty. The Brahmagiri wildlife sanctuary has varied species of animals including Macaques, Gaurs, Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, Cats, Wild Pigs, Nilgiri Langurs, and Sloth Bears. There are also around 240 avian species of the vivid fauna including Bulbul, Malabar Trogon, Emerald Dove etc. Reptilian species include Cobras, King Cobras, and Pythons. The flora is equally diversified with common and rare plant species like Eucalyptus, Bauhinias, Purpurea, Samanea Saman and many other species.

Madikeri fort can be visited between 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on all weekdays except Monday. Photography is free on the premises of the fort. The architecture of Madikeri fort showcases astonishing features. The presence of a temple, an Anglican Church, a prison, and a museum makes the tall standing structure marvelously beautiful. The Gothic style church with precisely stained glass windows and a grand clock tower are signs of British dominance over a period of time. There are life-size stone statues of elephants at the entrance, and a sculpture of a tortoise with initials of king Vijayrajendra carved on it that interests tourists. The architectural designs portrayed in Madikeri fort are praised overseas.

It is believed to possess the power to cleanse the sins of those visiting with faith. Rameshwara temple is an example of strong religious beliefs cored in the beauty of hills. It is believed that Lord Rama while in search for Sita, was passing through the Brahmagiri hills when he asked Lakshman to get him some water, Laxman shot an arrow into the mountain from where started a stream which flows down as the Laxman tirtha. The stream flows at the back of the temple and devotees take a holy dip in the water. The shiva lingam first established in this area is believed to be kept by Lord Ram himself, he also wished to build a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in this region. Rameshwaram temple has another shrine dedicated to Lord Rama, a prominent figure in the history of the temple. The temple falls on the way to Iruppu falls or Nagarhole.

                            Omkareshwara temple located in the Madikeri district of Coorg is an ancient shrine of Lord Shiva. Till date, it is one of the famous religious destinations in Karnataka. A temple with this unique architecture is not only of importance to the devotees but also for the tourists, historians, and philosophers. The Shiva lingam is placed at the entrance of the temple. From outside it appears like a large and simple structure emitting its intangible radiance of hope and devotion. The entry in the temple is free and the temple timings are from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It is believed that king Linga Rajendra II had killed a Brahmin to satisfy his hunger of political dominance, from then on he could not be at peace until he built the Omkareshwara temple as a sign of expiation to escape the unbearable nightmares. The history of this temple has been carved on a copper plate and placed on the entrance door frame. A tank in the temple premises also acts as a matter of interest for tourists.

This seasonal garden in Madikeri overwhelms and delight the visitor’s heart with peace and rejuvenate a stressful life. The sunset point overlooks a valley making the scene perfect for a beautiful picture to capture the moments.
